When I was small...under 6...I tasted a *pale tan* colored frosting once. It was the ugliest frosting that I've ever seen. But, I tasted it anyway. A neighbor brought a cake with over.
Well, I don't recall it tasting like much, but what it did taste like, I disliked intensely, and I was happy to eat any frosting previously.
When I got older, I realized that it was probably some version of mocha. So, who knows, but the visual and taste of that frosting stuck with me, and really, do we remember everything that we eat at that age? We know the foods that we ate, but a vivid memory of something particular is usually something very, very good, or really bad. I would have thought that frosting would have been okay for a kid, even if not a stand up favorite, but a big no on that one.
Oh, I love strawberry shortcake, too. Some are better than others, but all have been acceptable to one degree or another!
Food memories and cravings can be intense!
