I am very careful of my cast iron...and recently bought a bag of small brushes with handles... similar to fingernail brushes. They are varied in color but easy to use on detail jobs. I have spread them by color in the bathrooms 1 each in shower or tub, 1 in each bathroom sink. 1 for my nails, then 2 in the kitchen area. 1 for use on pans and dishes. 1 as a veggie brush, the last 2 for use on tools.
I got down my kitchen baking soda and made a paste and spread it on my cast iron after it had sat with some water on it before hand. 5 minutes later I used the dish brush and the crusty bits came right off. I then clean my non-stick skillet and WaLa both were clean as a whistle. I then used it on the hotplate and again. Not as good as new, but closer then it was.
Next I wanted to make some potato salad with the skin. I grabbed the food brush and using some water clean them up. I like to eat the skins even in my family's German potato salad. I also loved stuffed skins.
My dining room table has a scored line around the entire table. Bird seed and crumbs constantly make their way into it. I found one of these brushes really moves them out of the groove so I can pick them up using a wet paper towel. Works like a charm.
Dawn Soap... If I give Charlie a bath I use Blue Dawn dis soap first. This gets rid of all the ground in dirt from the yard. He runs very fast then has to skid to a stop.
Once Rinse his off, I used a small amount of his dry skin soap. Boy does he look and feel beautiful and so shiny & soft.
I now have two hummer feeders that leak. One is a square on the base with a lid. It is now on my desk full of rummer bands. In two of the feeder holes I stuck a mechanical pencil and a pen that is on the skinny side. My Thumb tacks are all stored in a Jif Peanut butter jar Label removed of course.
My large Quilt pins are in a cute glass preserves jar with a red & white checkered lid. I recycle all glass or plastic.
All the bird seed for Chance & Wild Birds is transferred into large Parrot Seed 4lb Jugs.
I used a lot on Chance's seeds. I saved them and have enough labeled for 8 Wild Bird Seed, 8 Parrot seed, 6 Cat dry food, but smaller plastic jars for Cat Nip & cat treats.
If I had to buy cat litter in a heavy box, once the box(s) is empty I buy a large bag of cat litter and split between the two boxes. Stackable is good. It is cheaper to buy pet food in bags rather then boxes. Which are a pain to get rid of.
I also have 12 4 lb jars for Charlie's Dry DOG food. And smaller ones for his treats, meds, etc. Square jugs stack on my pantry shelves and take up so much less room.
I also use a lot of batteries of all sizes: AA, AAA, 9V, D & C and some odd sizes. I label the lids, lay the square jugs on their sides and all I have to do is turn on the pantry light and grab what I need.
I also do the same with tools, and other work related objects. My son brings me over his older tools and news ones if I ask him to buy for me.
Plus, I use lots of unwaxed clothes line in the garden, in the house, when measuring. I tie knows at feet with one long piece and at Yards on another long piece.
Clothes pins... Boy gave me a huge bag of 2 inch clothes pins. I remove the plastic tabs and wire twists from bread and other food items.
I twist the loaf of bread and seal with a clothes pin. Stays on in fridge and freezer.
Clothes pins are not just for hanging laundry. I also use them for purpose.
I could go on by I'm sure this is enough for now. LOLOL!
Gotta Walk & play Ball with Charlie. 8-)
