(This is the weekly post where you share your week of food. Did you have anything that really made your week, such as your favorite soup, a lunch out, or maybe you had something new? Find a new food product? A new appliance? Please do share!)
So, a lot to tell!
Number one, Ds called and said that he can't go around the kid yet, but that he's out of quarantine, and was about to shop, as he wouldn't have other days coming up.
Uhm, not ready, but yes!
He didn't get here until 4, and didn't get back here until 10 P.M. I encouraged him to have bean burritos at Chipotle's in Ukiah, otherwise he'd have burned out way before we were done, and missed dinner.
We started there (Ukiah) at the food co-op, where a lot of his items, like pasta, non-dairy cheese, natural hotdogs, dish soap, etc. come from, and a few of mine.
I got new things. I got Stevia based Jello for Dh, the same companies pudding, a small container of heavy whipping cream, and a box of gf chocolate chip cookies.
The plan is to make him an ice box cake for his birthday on the 9th. I will make the pudding and whipped cream with a bit of powdered sugar and vanilla, and layer them with the cookies in a glass bowl overnight. Voila, ice box cake!
The Jello is for a different dessert. I got...oh, I'm not sure, but I think cherry, and orange, because he likes those flavors.
I also got him 2 small jars of dill relish. He likes it in his tuna or chicken salads. I think that one will last until next shopping. If not, we have the 2nd, but if so, then I won't buy it next month.
For me, I got 2 jars of jam. Boysenberry, and I'm trying their marionberry.
It takes a while, because Ds gets a lot there, so I read the list off while he goes through the store. It's a lot faster that way.
Then, we went to Raley's there.
Again, Ds gets way more there, so we go over what's available, and I read off the list. He needed frozen Amy's foods for ddil, baby food, etc.
I usually get a case of my special olives there...the jars are not very big, so that I can eat them with whatever I like...they are my big treat. They didn't have a case. So, I got a couple of each.
I also get Dh's cheese there, as they have the large, 2 lb. blocks, plus variety. He still had cheddar, so got colby-jack. They only had tiny Jacks.
Also. a bag of 'hippie' *rolling eyes* Fritos to make Dh 'walking tacos' sometime in the next 8 weeks. There's more, it took a while.
And, finally, we went to Safeway here in town. I got some canned pears...I was down to my last cans...to hold me off until the cases come in, and a couple of bags of tortilla chips for Dh, while waiting for those cases. Plus needs like foil, etc.
I got a few veges there. They are either great, or horrible there. So, while I still need 75% of my produce, from apples to lemons etc. I did get 4 med. heads of broccoli, my celery, and 2 heads of cabbage. I've already processed and cooked the broccoli, but we've also eaten some in beef and broccoli, which I think came out better than usual. Never could put a finger on why food can be better or worse sometimes. But, am always glad when it tastes good!
Ds needed stuff for ddil...juices, also a couple of veges, coffee, etc. so we took a while, but that store is now done! Well, I should hope so! 6 hrs. with driving, eegads, but with the Delta variant running rampant here, it means only 2 small trips to those stores and then an 8-10 week break from them.
At the end, we usually buy a treat for ddil and Dh. They have slices of cake and such in little clam shell containers. Plus, they are on sale by that time of night.
Ds got ddil some kind of death-by-chocolate, but I knew that Dh wouldn't want chocolate that day, so found a piecc of bakery carrot cake.
It turns out, I have never seen carrot cake pieces that large. His was over 6"x6"! And, I paid.....wait for it....$1. for it!
He cut it into pieces, and will make it last.
We do have to grab the cases when they come in to Safeway.
Chicken is coming in today. I finally, hopefully, get my new pot of broth to make ramen from, in part, and make chicken pot pie...now that I have a biscuit topping for it! I also wouldn't mind making chicken fried rice, herby chicken strips, and legs for myself! I got 2 packs of legs, 4 legs per pack.
Then, the local market to get all of the produce that we both needs. He thinks tomorrow.
Well, it was 6 hours, but a lot is done! I'm doing the happy dance because so many things I needed have been gotten. Now meat, and I really will be set!
How was your food week?
