(This is the weekly post where you share your week of food. Did you have anything that really made your week, such as your favorite soup, a lunch out, or maybe you had something new? Find a new food product? A new appliance? Please do share!)
We kind of started shopping on Tuesday, since Monday didn't work out.
Ds worked down in Hopland, and got back to Ukiah about 4. We shop at 2 stores there, getting chicken, Ds's bread, etc. But, not the bulk of the shopping.
I didn't get a lot, even though that's where I get my chicken. Because they did have much at all, darn it. We split what there was.
I did get 2 bottles of juice from the co-op. I got blueberry this time. My plan is to add aa little water to it, and put it into popsicle holders for the heat coming this week.
I also got Dh a bag of Fritos. My plan is to make him 'walking tacos' one day between now and August.
You open the small bag at the back, kind of like the old mini-boxes of cereal that you did that to, and added milk, eating it right out of the box. Only, you put chili over the Fritos, and top with grated cheese. You can add green onions and tomatoes, if you like. People eat them walking around fairs and such. I have no idea where the word 'tacos' came from, since they clearly aren't tacos, but it's what they call them.
I won't actually be giving Dh his in a bag. I'm going to serve it in a bowl. With chili, cheese, and probably salsa. He has a salsa which smells very good, and he says that it tastes very fresh, so it's perfect, I think.
So, I am not sure what else we will have...the usual I guess, since there's so little chicken, and the meat is limited.
I'm not getting anything 'fancy', but I do need all vegetables, including onions, which I rarely run out of. That means that I will be spending hours prepping them, and cooking them, for the freezer. It's a lot of work but very much worth it, I've learned.
As late as Friday I was using my previously cooked and frozen vegetables.
I cooked one of my 3 packs of chicken, then added a bag of my frozen and cooked broccoli, celery, greens etc. Hardly any work at all, just season and add rice! Oh, I did add some fresh ginger.
But, that was the last package of my broccoli, and the others are low.
I also want to get a pair of cabbages, some beets, maybe carrots, onions, etc.
So, here's hoping that we can shop at Safeway tomorrow, and the small market where we get most of our produce. Safeway is more for packaged goods, and 'stuff' like foil, plastic wrap, paper towels etc. Ds gets a lot more than I do there, as ddil eats conventional foods that I can't.
I do hope to be picking up our cases there, though. We pre-ordered my canned pears, and Dh's tortilla chips. We also pre-ordered Ds's canned beans, 3 types. It makes no sense to pull them off of the shelf, if they even have them, when they can be packed in boxes. Better for the back, better for other customers, etc.
I've continued to enjoy my candy. Truly amazing after so many years/decades without real candy. I can't decide if I prefer the chocolate cups (equivalent of milk chocolate.), or the dark chocolate ones with mint filling. So, I trade off, and have different ones on different days. I eat about 1/4 cup per time, maybe 2ce per day, so a max of 1/2 cup per day. It's working out so far. It's amazing how a little piece of candy can brighten one's outlook!
How was your food week?
