Also, I was addicted to tomato paste base on homemade pizzas. I made a very good pizza sauce, which was like a pizza parlor, but only if I had a lot of time.
I add Italian herbs, salt, garlic powder, etc.
As for cheeses...whatever I had. Usually 3...mozzarella or Jack, some cheddar, and parmesan, since those were my go-to's in the house.
Toppings changed, but usually veggie, such as onions, bell peppers if I had them, black olives, etc. If I hadn't shopped, there were no mushrooms.
Also, if I had time, I'd make ground sausage. That was good, but not for instant pizza, or near the end of the month, when supplies were lower.
I resisted bbq'd chicken for years. Finally, we grilled some breasts of chicken on the bbq. They were delicious, with a wonderful smoky taste. So, I froze some for another day.
One day, Ds mentioned thawing one for pizza. I didn't really care for the idea over-much, but agreed.
Oh. My. Gosh! It was sooo good. We didn't make weird sauce for the pizza, or anything like that. We just made them per usual, and when putting on the toppings added smoky bbq'd chicken that we'd cut into squares, to the top. Wow, so good! Probably, had it just have been cooked in the house, I wouldn't have cared, but the flavor of the bbq really came through.
Thank you for sharing. I've been craving pizza lately.
