My oldest cousin makes my grandmother's chocolate and biscuits for Christmas morning. He doesn't want to eat too much sugar all the time, but loves it, so has it on that day.
This has nothing to do w/ Christmas morning, but I put a sauerkraut borscht on Ds's menu for this month. (vs. a cold beet version, cabbage soup, etc.) It's a family recipe that we've made for generations. I make it, my mother made it, my grandmother made it, and my great-grandmother made it. It went back farther than that, but I don't know how far back.
You have to not hate sauerkraut, though. In this version, the sauerkraut is rinsed, then cooked with meat, tomatoes, etc. so it's not as 'strong' as people think of it as. If you like it at all, I can post the recipe.
