I have rarely eaten breakfast on Thanksgiving, but try to eat in the afternoon (toast, etc. as described, or good bread with the rest.) because we always ate at regular dinner time, and I had to eat something before then. Besides which, I've found that, in order to eat a big meal, I couldn't fast anyway, even as a kid.
Once I was the cook, I tasted, too. I'm constantly amazed when someone on a cooking competition doesn't.
A judge will sometimes ask, did you taste this food? Then the cook will say no. And, sometimes they have them taste it. It might not be salted, have too much salt, be too spicy, whatever, and every time I just shake my head.
