Because I can't always keep broccoli good since not having my regular 'fridge, I know that I have to use it within' a couple of days.
So, I often cut it into the size that I need for beef and broccoli, stir fry, or whatever I'm using it for, quite soon. Cut up, it stays good 2ce as long in a gallon ziplock bag in the 'fridge, than whole. I suspect that I'm removing the parts that will go bad first, and are, perhaps, moist?
Even though there are 2 of us, compared to 1 of you, I still find that we eat a lot less without Ds here.
I do the same to meal sizes of soup, chili, and stir fry starter; bagged flat. It takes the least room, and thaws faster. I have a Sharpie just for writing on the bags. Good idea on the paper towels.
I keep hoping that your things will get there sooner than later.
I love container planting, including tubs and tires!
Soup is definitely a cook's best friend! :-)
