I've always loved Sunset magazine. Definitely from way back with me, too!
Yes, I first read the blood type diet book in the 90's, I think it was, and have a newer copy, digital, from last year.
Whenever I want to do anything with food, I always have to first change a couple of things around due to my allergies, health issues, etc. Not to do so would be foolish.
But, once you make the unavoidable changes, it's a pretty good concept, and I know quite a few people that have lived it for 20 years, or so. The results have been only positive for them.
The reason that I have a new copy, is because ddil is a completely different blood type than we are, a rare type, and she eats completely different foods. Yet, where we don't do well on, say, a high dairy diet, etc. she does, and she really doesn't like a lot of our choices.
Upon looking up her blood type, we found (ds got it.) that 90% of what she rejects, she's not supposed to eat, by that diet, and what she does want, is good for her to eat...again, according to that diet.
And, my ex-sil was an AB. He read the original book and began having lemon-water with meals, a recommendation for people with low stomach acid, and it pretty much changed his life. All of his digestive problems went away with the changes that he made from that book.
I am not pushing it, but more than any other diet that I've seen, it's done well for people that I know, and makes scientific sense. I'll just put it that way.
Interestingly, things that I've had to give up, have almost always been on the list as things for me to avoid. I didn't do it because of the book, but it seems more than just coincidental.
So, just letting you know that I'm extremely familiar with it.
As for coffee...I know how hard it is to give up. When my heart problem was discovered, and I went on medication, I had a coffee habit that I thoroughly enjoyed, but was told to stop drinking it.
The way that I did it was to stop buying it. That's what worked for me. After a while, I may have sniffled with self-pity, but I could be around it and not drink it.
Because my parents drank coffee for breakfast, I think that I have strong associations with the smell of coffee, especially in the mornings.
Good luck, I think that it will be a healthy change, whatever the reason for making the decision, though I know that it's a challenge.
