(This is the weekly post where you share your week of food. Did you have anything that really made your week, such as your favorite soup, a lunch out, or maybe you had something new? Find a new food product? A new appliance? Please do share!)
We had a much better week than we've been having, due to the meat that I mentioned last week.
I made some gingered beef and vegetables, a browned meat pasta dish, and some chili. I have other plans for the rest of it. Keep thinking those positive freezer thoughts, please!
I also had the rest of the extra money that I was owed, and paid, and was going to just put it away, but needs have a way of coming out at just the right time.
Since not being able to buy food in the same way that we used to, we have still had our oats in bulk, and our masa in bulk, as we can't get the hypoallergenic/gf versions anywhere else anymore. The other companies sound good, but when you talk to them, they aren't.
Well, both were getting low, especially as Ds went in on the masa with us originally, so only 1/2 of it was ours.
First, I got the oats. That wasn't too bad, even though I could only get the smallest bulk size, but it should still last us for a while. Even the size that I got was above the amount of $'s to get free shipping, so that is on the way.
Then, I went to the website with the masa. I chose, once again, to get the smaller of the 2 bulk sizes. But, when I got to the checkout part, the shipping cost was huge!!!
So, I looked up their shipping rules, and discovered that I was under the amount that I'd have to spend to get free shipping!
I calculated the amount that I had vs. what it would cost to get the larger amount in bulk, and I could do it, but it would leave me with $'s just for some new cat food, and some extra vegetables from the market.
But, the masa has really helped us out when we've been low on food with eggs, as breakfast, and, of course, just as tortillas. So, I got the larger amount.
At least every penny that I spent on it went to the food, and not to shipping! It reminded me of ordering $10. in pasta - 4 packs, but spending $23. with shipping OR spending $20 - 8 packs. in pasta and spending...well, just $20! I just can't see getting less food for the $'s, and paying outrageous shipping costs. So, I'm officially broke once I get the cat food and veges, but many meals, and our health, have been saved.
How was your food week?
