Taylor's is incredible.
Agree, Because it's Long Beach should have been a premium over some schools, but that number is creazy, Smitherin got rolled on that hire.
I do think it's hard to judge coaches in this new era, of constant turnover.
Some of the player salaries former Big West players are getting I hear of are just obscence, like how can that be.
impossible to judge value, I would think there's a limited demand of the schools that can pay high salries, and a huge oversupply of players trying to get those salaries, so Econ 101 would seem to hold salaries down. But that supply - demand intersection must be off lol. I guess also can mean there's a supply of very good players if you can find them that are undervalued.
It's like a perverted version of Moneyball.
I'm totally against a proposed anti-trust exemption for college sports. No F'ing way.

Someone on Twitter posted this recently...salaries for every Big West Mens basketball coach, except for Bake (no permanent coach last year).
Pasternack 766,558
Turner 676,931
Newman 540,176
Acker 500,755
Les 496,928
Ganot 400,008
DeGeorge 393,000
Allard 375,000
Taylor 283,800
Argenal 275,000
Why did Acker receive a compensation package way above what the other newly hired coaches in the Big West did (DeGeorge, Allard, Argenal)? Makes no sense. He was a career assistant coach getting his first shot at head coach. Hell, he's making more than Les and Ganot...I mean, if he had a couple of promising seasons, I could see tearing up his original contract and giving him an extension in that salary range to keep him from leaving. There's only one logical explanation and it has to be the obvious. Slytherin wanted his buddy and was offering way more than he had to.

one would have to believe Jenny is an outright liar.
end of story
I can even understand (though not excuse) that Smitheran constrained by a rigid fixed budget was trying to to reduce expense. There is no question Jenny's program had sliped below the top UCSB program over 10 years. She had lost a couple top players transferring. However, if you are simply going to de-emphasize tennis to fund your MBB program by trying to find $30 k or so (can't be a massive amount) off the top line, then just be brutally honest about it - don't go about it trying to squeeze a HOF coach in to a corner, if you never had any intention to extend a contract of a coach in the first place, and go about making snide allusions. This was a coach that could have pocketed a portion of camp money and who had cultivated donors to make the program a juggernaut.

It's unlikely we'll ever hear evidence or both sides of the story. These things tend to end up being settled. But...the only evidence I need is that 3 or 4 of our best coaches suddenly retire before their time in roughly 15 months. Just because Jenny is the only one to speak up is not any vindication for Slytheran the snake. I'm sure the others, like Knipe, had issues with him but have reasons for staying quiet.

There are always 2 sides to every story. Agree that the AD should report to the Pres.

How do we know the AD did act like an ass? Maybe he did. But, I'm one of those silly people that would like to see evidence first.
That said, we are in total agreement that Apel needs to be removed from overseeing athletics. Let the AD report directly to the president.

why would an AD have acted like such as ass?
regardless of the reasons, #1 on the list is this VP middle man situation has to be eliminated pronto to start.
and then go from there, and not to let the AD use a new reporting structure as any excuse for any thing..
