3rd setter?
1) Practice setter, always want 3.
2) If they do have a reliable solid serve, potential spot serving sub and libero back up
we've had really solid serving subs. I remember back going to about 2020, seemed our serving subs errored a lot and the strategy was to try to hit home runs from the serving subs, but my memory could be wrong
Harlan in particular, then Bloom, Peluso, Hillis come to mind have really been quality serving subs who could also play back row. Program has really progressed in that regard IMO

I read IG posts from two other players committing to the Niners:
Sebastian Hernandez, 5'11 Setter
Miles Alderman, 6'1 Libero
Not sure if these are accurate but probably aren't impact players. The setter guy seems questionable, if in fact, true. Why would MacRae recruit a 5'11 setter now, when the best setters in the NCAA are getting taller?

Setters:
Pazanti
Lucas Helle (USA U19 National Team)
MB:
Cryst
Marquardt (only a junior)
Preuitt.
Sybesma. grad transfer and local Bellflower kid, hit 0.385 for Vanguard, which is decent, have not seem him play.
Libero:
Larson
Ben Bayer OH/L, another U19 national team player
Opp:
Herschy
Owen Weekes Opp/OH Another Canadian
? will have to cross-train another OH for practices at least.
OHs: lots, question is who will arise, biggest hole in the roster
Kandev, hopefully healthy for a season
Weeks
Estes
Myles Jordan, will we see a huge leap?, did not appear to be at D1 strength to me last year.
Baddeley
Logan Gray (Arizona)
Joosep Kurik (Estonia)
Serving Subs; Bloom, Hillis, Peluso, Herschy - all the reg serving subs - this will be a complete makeover. in general the subs were solid, and minimized errors. Total make-over.
MB is a huge strength,
Setter should be improved regardless.
Libero is a beast
Opp is really strong, Herschy has hit over 0.300 each year, and a strong block
big question mark is the OH by committee, really hard to predict, Varga is the huge big hole to replace wiht his all around game
2 spots seemed to be left to get to 18, really do not see any huge impact transfers out there, so will be interesting to see which way this goes. There's a couple but would not really call the ones out there proven stand-outs like Sotoris was. Loyola, UCSD, Hawaii all have OHs who went to the portal, depends on how the staff feels about Jordan, Kurik, Weeks.

Micah Sybesma, 6'7 MB, is transferring in from Vanguard for his final season. According to my running count, we have 2 more spots available for freshman, transfers or more Euro's.
