probably biggest impact. 4 of 7 teams are moving out leaving 3. & only Sac State has tennis.
the teams are probably going to be looking elsewhere and wonder if it might get dropped by some schools.
UCSB has been a big dog in Tennis both men's and womens & Pepperdine has been a strong national program historically.
Women's Tennis.
same 4 schools leaving, leaving 6. UCSB has dominated, with Hawaii near the top.
Women's Water polo. Hawaii already an affiliate and WCC does not sponsor, Pepperdine has no team, I suspect they all stay, the GCC has Cal Baptist and UOP and LMU.
Men's H20 Polo. Big West just started supporting.
WCC sponsors with 7 teams, and Cal Baptist is n the WCC. would expect UCSD and UCSB to play in the WCC. leaving the Big West with 3 members (not sure what UC Davis is doing) or 4, and so may be as few as 5 with Cal Baptist, so the Big West is gonna have some decisions to make.
MVB. the sport is so fragmented conference wise, with the Big West being the first real conference to sponsor. the WCC will now have 4 teams (UOP, Pepp SB, SD), the Big West 3. the B1G 4. Hawaii has stated they will stay. so the structure in place. thing is UOP has announced they'll join the MPSF. The MPSF is a weird construction of top tier and low tier non D1 programs. Ideally Big West remains intact. Who knows what happens. I would suspect the 4 WCC teams will have a discussion about what to do, and I would think those coaches would prefer to have the WCC over the league vs. Big West, to call the shots. It's a niche sport, just it's a sport that UCI, Beach, Pepp, Haw have been legit national contendors, even UCSB was in final four in 2021. The structure in place for status quo to continue, and Big West needs SD & SB, who do have the option probably to join the MPSF, the WCC can't do it by itself, the sport is so thin in terms of conference make up, except for maybe the MIVA. Any one of the top 15 teams that would decide to move to another conference literally has extreme consequences for the sport and other conferences. Ideally, the Big West would invite UOP, and maybe make for a Big West-WCC co sponsor conference.
Beach VB. almost amazing that SB & SD the two schools right on a beach do not sponsor, although I think UCSD is going to sponsor soon.
