UCSB has been trying to get into the WCC for a long time. They were rejected in the 90's because they only wanted private schools at the time. They have some donors providing external sources of funds which probably match what the other WCC schools have, but far exceed what the Big West holdovers have with one exception. That would be UCI, which we can assume will pursue the WCC with a vengeance.

UCSD is one thing, UCSB is a long time rival and long term conference mate
would make the Big West a shell. also, losing all the high ranking research insitutions (UCSD, Davis, SB) stings
what is left?
Still do not get that the WCC is some high profile conference. Pepp & LMU really have not stood out in recent years.
getting left in the dust, I think circa 2012 LOng Beach State would have been the top 1 or 2 for the WCC to pursue. not now
