seriously, what in hades do people wish for?

of course, Acker has it tough and last two years, and especially the last month, after some promising developments, has been brutal

first of all. CDM despite a NCAA tourney run, left teh program in shambles, he really did. Attendance was in the TANK. CCM DID NOT DO SQUAT TO SET UP NIL or capitalize on any success he had, in fact he made fun of LBSU as he went out the door, and LBSU made CDM rich/wealthly and was tolerant of CDM's shortcomings.

at the time of his firing. CDM had taken a team that BEAT Michigan and USC in front of sell outs, and proceeded for that team to TANK just as bad and even WORSE than what we are witnessing now, because we know who he had on that team. Irvine game? packed students biggest crowd in years at home? GOT PUNKED and we WERE FLAT OUT EMBARRASSED. how many of you were there and remember how bad that was. UCSB at home? beat down. embarrasing. UC Davis last game, at home. LOST big time. and then somehow backed into a 4th seed cause I think UCSB lost as well.

that is what Smitheran was facing. a 10-10 team that was competing for a top two seed with that talent a month before and getting punked AT HOME OVER AND OVER. Sound familiar? yeah this team was at 4-3 and competing for a 4 seed, and yeah been wretched.

at least Smitheran, who yes hasn't proved much of anything, pulled the plug and created an environment however chaotic it was for a BWCT run. would we have won otherwise? will never know, but puuuhleeze spare people and do not insult LBSU nation that that team and coach were going anywhere that season. they LUCKED into a 4 seed, losing 5 straight and back doored just to be able to have a chance for a run, before getting a kick in their pants.


Frankly, the decision to 'fire' CDM AT THAT MOMENT has been the best decision Smitheran has made, cause we got a NCAA tourney out of it.

CDM could have stayed if he just could ahve sustained anything form 2010-2013, imagine post 2024 not getting that tourney bid and what the state of the program would have been like, with players bailing for money elsewhere.

would we be better these last two years? well would be hard to not be better. could we have been even worse? Yeah, we actually might be. have no idea what resources he has up there, but the EW record isn't that great and good for him they've got a little mini-run in their season.

but puuuhleeze, enough of the 2nd guessing for a coach that had attendance dwindle for 3500 in 2013 to 1200 or so in 2024. CDM wasn't a horrible coach, but neither was he a program builder. Yikes!
