I don’t think Sac State or their crazy president are going into this alone, however. The CSU obviously has no surplus money to fund this either. What Sac State has done (which LBSU never figured out how to do) is get the Sacramento metro businesses to work collectively to raise the profile of Sac State athletics, believing that it would benefit businesses as well as the school. They have group called the SAC 12, which consists of business owners in the area who are providing funds, or at least, pledging funds if the school can get into a FBS conference. I think the Sacramento Kings owner, Vivek Ranadivé, who is one of wealthiest men in northern California, is part of this. He has already offered the Golden One Center arena to Sac State to play their home games their if they were invited to the Pac 12 or MWC.
I think their strategy behind this curious move to the MAC is to keep their Pac 12/MWC dream alive. Everyone is predicting a major realignment in conferences in 2031 or 32 because many of the major media deals are set to be renegotiated. If they can hold their head above water till then, there’s a chance that the PAC or MWC will need a regional team to fill out their conference.

none of these moves by Sac State make sense
they leave a conference where they actually fit, even though in football never really challenged the Montana or Montana State powers
they keep apparently shelling out money. $18 million?!! I'm suspecting that is not all up front, but do they really have this massive donor base?
plus the MAC? no offense, just how is going to Mid West 2nd rate insitutions going to raise their profile?
They have no football stadium of note. no gym
it's like their Pres and AD think acting like 'players' actually makes it true
How does this go down in the Cal State system, where seemingly in regards to Long Beach State, they gave us a President who went out of her way to 'put down' Long Beach lol, and bag on boosters of the school
Sac State is not even academically anywhere near SDSU or Cal Poly, nor San Jose, Long Beach, Fullerton in terms of ranking/rating
It's like they think because Sac has grown they can be the 'pro' franchise in Sacrament, when heck the Kings have trouble getting recognized and half the town is Warrior fans lol
UC Davis is the big dog in Sac, their medical and law schools overshadow Sac State less than 5-6 miles apart.
just nothing of this makes sense, and seems like a 'suicide mission' in athletics.
I don't wish them luck or failure, and they are parked in the Big West and even then we know they don't even want to be in the Big West, and would jump in a heartbeat to the Pax-X even though the Pac-X made it clear they want no part of Sac State, so Sac State somehow thinks they will get an invite someday out of all this
. just chaotic moves, we know for sure if they did leave the Big West they'd do everything in their power to 'stiff' the Big West. I just hope the Big West got the exit fees up front.
just on every level, this has the makings of an epic fail. Not that Long Beach is in any position to question other schools. it's just fascinating that a Cal State President has so much rope given to them. Maybe it's concerted becasue of the location at the Capital to make Sac State some flagship athletic marvel.
just do not see it happening. They need like $750 million, no way they have that type of backing, and maybe the PRes/AD think the State would actually fund some gilded football stadium? really?
fun to watch I guess
