we did hit a flat spot, with the losing streak, in part because of not having Sykes. Even then the play and way they play is solid, given the talent on this team
not having Sykes will make it more difficult thru February. it's a tall task with the SOS these last 9 games and very last one may be facing have to win in Hawaii to make the tournament.
I guess we'll know a lot by Saturday, these are two very winnable games this week, with Sykes, and still I think need to win 1 of 2.
regardless the optics of not making the BWCT again would be horrible for the program. I think Acker showed he can recruit, but who knows year to year.
and then we'll see how he re-stocks, I'm sure he's trying to round up some money - just can't imagine it's a lot.
then again, I care about Volleyball at this point, we are good in all 3 teams - #1 maintain what you are good at for god's sake, if Smitheran doesn't realize that, and thinking he can get a one time silver bullet with some fantasy about a sweet 16 MBB run, he's out to lunch. MVB is actually generating some revenue lol. If VB goes in the sh&tter, you got nothing.

Rosters for low-majors like LBSU will be transitory for the foreseeable future. If your coach can't deal with it or doesn't have a strategy to overcome massive yearly changes, you need a different coach. D2 and JUCO coaches learn how to live with this, or actually the successful ones do. You can already tell who is looking for money in their next school. Their agents are constantly posting how well they played in their most recent games (looking at you Petar). I don't anticipate everyone leaving like last season, but you know the most important pieces (Petar, Sykes, Leopold and maybe others) will need to be replaced. We'll see if Acker is up to the challenge. First things first, though. What would your opinion about Acker be if we don't make the BW tournament this year?

hopefully no change in coach
I've been pleased by how the team has progressed this year, last year was so disjointed and Askew was touching the ball seemed like >60% of every possession.
I just do not know about coaching. the transfers are making this impossible to evaluate who will succeed
Cal Poly - DeGeorge is a prime example, they had no where to go but up, just I don't know if he's a better coach than Acker, they are running a gimmick scheme - so maybe that's part of it.
I am already just dredding the possibility that it'll be an entire rebuild. Does that mean Acker is a failure given the cards? We've seen player development this year, IMO more than we would see most of the time with you know who. Sykes could seriously potentially challenge to break Lucious Beach & Big West record.
it's just deflating to think about, the entire basketball landscape. transitory, not fun.

In his third year as head coach, Justin Downer is 66-19 overall and 40-8 in conference. He'll be a head coach next season in the Big West (at CSUF if they fire Taylor ) or the WCC (at USD, surely, Lavin isn't going to last).
Another D2 coach to monitor for future LBSU consideration is Steve Becker at Dominguez Hills.
In the last 3 seasons (counting 25-26), CSUDH is 67-19. Last season they went 30-6 and went all the way to the D2 championship final, where they lost by 1 point.

Leopold, Nagy and Petar would have made a strong frontcourt. Petar is tall but he plays essentially like a 3. I believe we would have a stronger team, since we don't have other solid options at the small forward.

I would put Nagy behind Leopold, so do not know if he would start.
he would be valuable, great potential like Petar to be a pick and pop 3 pt threat
just don't know of his quickness for D1. He could be a role player and given DMX out Nagy could have used him for sure.
like last year team has really lacked that athletic 6'6" wing that can shut down on defense and slash and score.
maybe playting time is good for Nagy, and he'll go D1 his junior or senior year, would not be surprised, beasides long Beach can be too 'big'a school, 40,000 and Point Loma might just be a a better fit for other reasons.

Sure could have used Nagy at the 5 this year. He's averaging 15.1 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and shooting 61.2% overall. He's one of the reasons why Point Loma is 16-4 this year. I never understood why he chose to transfer to D2 when he could have been a starter in his sophomore season with us. Did he just not get along with the coaching staff? I wish he would have stayed and DMX transfer out...
