I'm not a 'layman' lol Previous Message
All subjective without any true analysis or research. The educational professionals, with all the issues I am aware of, are better than the layman who whines about imagined standards and wants us to move backward at every opportunity to a previous century. When was the last decade or century any of us were in a university as a student? I know my answers. Previous Message
agreed. as far as I can tell, the Cal State response to AI is to proudly provide access to AI tools
sheesh, so all that will do is further dumb down students who will make neat looking reports by using an AI tool
AI theory is really hard, I doubt the extent to which most students are really going to be educated on AI THEORY
instead it's another 'gadget' where they won't really learn, another crutch and 'instant answer' gadget. why even go to college if the skillset consists of asking Alexa for an answer
like all things, Cal State bureaucracy and decision makers are ill equipped to deal with AI ramfications. heck, we all are. just encouraging it's 'blind' use is troubling Previous Message
SAT scores are not very accurate predictors of actual academic success in college. They do seem to be accurate predictors of a threshold minimum in terms of ability to do college level work. There is plenty of research to indicate this, including research from the test makers themselves.
It's not guaranteed that demand for college attendance will continue. Many young people are doubting the value of a college education and are looking at other alternatives.
What's really important is for the CSU leaders to get a handle on what learning in the presence of AI needs to look like. No one is really prepared to do that just yet, but the traditional college model is not going to survive in a world with AI. Previous Message
idiotic decision makers in California
react to the clamor of bias in SATs, so eliminate them, well did they ever think of the CONSEQUENCES?

yes there was know bias, but wow intelligent people can understand that and deal with it.
and now the esteemed California 'leadership' & Cal State System will further dumb-down our State college systems

lol, they are not doing it for any reasons of acedemic excellence or to help California industry
they are doing it do to PRESSURE from the educational complex for JOBs. they see California demographics as stagnant, they see the trend (another debate in itself) that undocumented individuals are decreasing, they don't want to CUT or ELIMINATE some university positions or schools (like Sonoma State, Channel Islands, others) that are at the BOTTOM totum pole of educational excellence reflected in like 95% + acceptance rate, so instead trying to just fill up the colleges with anybody. literally anybody. why? they don't want to make tough decisions that could 'hurt' somebody's job
it is STUPID, mindless (yes that is a subjective opinion!) to do this.
they do not want to face reality instead trying to feed an educational beast and preserve something that needs to be looked at objectively
can't make this idiocy up
they need to bring back standards, and REDUCE subjectivity, they need to trim probably 10% of adomission, shutter 2-3 colleges, combine some for reduced admin
but no!!! just lower standards. unfrggn crazy
