lol, at thisin her bio. ok, so she's good at gettign federal funding, or was at least. guess what? for the next 3-8 years, better not count on that lol. meaning need a leader, and don't do Jane's BS accounting of fund-raising. Fund-raising to me means building a DONOR base and not turning off donors.
"Under her leadership, she garnered $54.5 million in federal funding from NIH, NSF, USDA and U.S. Dept of Education to support scientific research, student training and STEM faculty development, and state capital fundin for a new instructional and research facility. "
I always laugh at these self-serving bios. No, I don't believe 'she' alone raised that. that was part of standard operating procedure anyway. all that bio tells me is she could raise money within the system. man, that should be a given for the CSU system job descriptions, not some big deal. ....actually escape the construct of a prisoner of the Cal State bureaucracy to
1) get funding from private sources ? sorry doubt she has those type of connections, her resume is all academia incestuous career. no offense, lol
2) she's smart of course to get where she is, now can she lead without mindless 'equity' and 'DEI' blather. there is nothing wrong about diversity, it's fabulous, it should be a no brainer the subject itself. just it really does not need some constant drumbeat as if Long Beach is not a diverse university. what happened under Jane was silly, sad, and unncessary in her messaging. just do not make it some constant mantra. the message has to be excellence. Jane was this silly drumbeat for 10 years
3) see above, it has to all be about excellence. doesn't mean need the President's scholars program to go back to what it was. Just the message has to be focused without some constant qualifiers or caveats to hit. Make the Dean's focus the message on that. what that is, I don't know. I know what it isn't, and it wasn't the environment that Jane created here
4) Athletics. It's almost secondary now, I want the PResident to be a leader on Academics and the Arts first.
5) Athletics. It's a mess. the combination of the structure and coaches bailing under Smitherin and the last two years of seeing everything (except MVB) being basically dismantled. #5a) shoudl be the structure - fix it. #5b) Get focused on VB and quick, before Knipe & Campbell are gone. keep something that works and successful working. it's the cardinal rule of business. do what you do best, and don't screw that up. then go figure out how to fix other things. Expecting a press release this afternoon, at the latest. Will be surprised if Dr. Gunn, current provost, is not the selection.
