You're a big JCP lover - did you tell her that when she increased student fees a few years ago without a student vote? California residents have choices in deciding what campus to attend. If you go to one that has D1 sports, you should expect to have to financially support athletics. As I said in the original post, boosters also have a responsibility to support athletics. The two work hand in hand. If you want the bare minimum college experience and just want your degree, those campuses are there. Previous Message
Students should not accrue additional debt. Previous Message
$180 per quarter, $540 per year fee being voted on to increase support for intercollegiate athletics, including the creation of a Beach VB program. According to the referendum, this is needed just to bring UCI student support to the same level as UCSD and Davis. I know Janey threw us a bone a couple of years ago to increase student fees but athletics only received part of it. I know this sounds like an arms race, but our next president needs to make it a priority to increase our student fee support for athletics to the same level as UCI, Davis, and UCSD. If we're not at that same level, we're destined to be in the bottom of the Big West in most sports. I know the students think supporters should increase their donations while supporters think the students should pay more. If the students increase their fees, I think supporters would be more willing to increase their donations.
