supercharged crowd with supercharged Beach contingents and supercharged team attitude.
a night after Knipe seemingly flailed with any line-up tweak, every move was magical
starting with Kandev's bold brilliant coming out party. put Kandev on the service line to start the match and Kandev responded with a 4 point serving run off the bat. He passed mostly solid, only one big shank and shrugged that off. He was a hammer, there's no middle speed or throws (that he'll have to develop), just pounded.
McRaven recovered was skying all night as Beach middles made upf for a Nada performance, and Irvine got exactly ONE kill and hit zero from their middles.
Braun's length helped, and had some nice serve placements including winning a key point late to tie up the game late with his 'dive float' serve that uses his height.
was astounding to think how those Irvine's soft serves the night before were causing so much havoc, Beach must have not been prepared for the amount of them, not last night, puff balls.
for the two leading servers, Moni was overcooking so many serves and then Henno despite all those kills was inexplicably hitting easy roll serves that could be handled. Henno was really frustrates with a lot of aspects despite all those kills.
Moni got the last laugh on their sub serving nights with that last killer ace he got the right amount of overspin on finally to stun the IRvine defenders.
if one would say Henno would get 21 kills in 3 sets and you'd win you'd be scared of the likely result. not the case. Neutered every other aspect of Irvine.
Connelly was dressed as the 2nd libero, even though he never entered, so that was interesting, Knipe obviously was preparing to give him a shot - for whatever reason Larson responded with a turn around performance playing both serve and receive libero
Siapanis is so engagged on the sidelines. just hoping his back comes back. he deserves it. His backrow receiving this year and serving variety and cleverness has been nothing short of spectacular and every bit the story if underrated as Moni. If not, hopefully these guys are motivated to take up the slack back there.
only down side was Herschy had so so back to back attack nights, although he was solid on bringing his serve.
Moni was a monster with his variety of awesome on two or scrambled play kills. just has to get a bit reigned in from going to the refs so much, he got a lot of rope from last nights up ref, but the wrong attitude ref (especially in Hawaii) may end up with him getting a yellow or worse. either that or make him captain, lol. Varga did finally take control to gently push Moni aside for his own good as the match went on.
great response, team took the humble pie personal and did something about it.
