did not know that about Manassee, that's too bad
and she's gone thru a number of jobs, but won at places
I knew Smith was pushed out. Played him once and he killed me, lol. His kid ended up going to Poly, assuming maybe got tuition cut as a result.
Smith only won 4 national titles, lol Previous Message
Hawaii eeked out 4-3 win at Fullerton yesterday. The field three former LB players; now all seniors or 5th years seniors. Assume weird vibe coming.
Tennis friends at USC say:
• Peter Smith got quietly pushed out at USC after all his success. Something went down.
• Manassee does not have a bachelor's degree. Never finished. Was pushed out at USC mid season when that came to light and she'd bern lying about it. Believe she is the only Hilt player to finish at LB but not actually graduate.
A booster recently told me the new coache at UCSD, who had been the assistant, only got job after other candidates learned how little budget they'd have. And the new coaches at CSF is a sizeable step backwards D2 coach for similar apparently.
Wonder how that will impact tennis search since Coach Hilt has been open that she has to fundraise at least 25% of scholarship money and the international addrd costs just to field 8 players?
Plus the fact every LB sport is looking at 8% budget cut per campus wide cuts & unfunded 4% annual tuition increases on scholarships.
Where does all that come from?
Good luck to the next coach.

this is so far a great story.
Hilt-Costello has assembled an almost all frosh crew for the future in her final year. Assuming the next coach can retain, this is a throwback to Beach dominance from 2005-2015
9-2 record, back in the rankings, have been closing out teams, a deep team. headed to a top tier BWCT seed
huge huge match vs. Hawaii on Thursday, Hawaii at the top at 4-0. Hawaii beat NOrth 5-2, Beach did 4-3, Hawaii lost to SDSU, who Beach beat.
hopefully the coaching search has started, almost an impossible task, would be good to have that selection set before the end of the season given this roster. this is not MBB where one needs to wait
one name to consider.
would be a dream to get HOF Peter Smith back for 5 years, but doubt he'd give up giving $135/hour + lessons at the Jack Kramer Club, nor probably not the one at this stage of his HOF coaching career to deal with the int'l recruiting needed
Rachel Manasse has been various D2-3 head coaching stints, not sure she'd be the right fit
both know the SoCal tennis inside out.
almost impossible to replace Hilt-Costello
