Cal Poly cutting swimming and diving

LMU cut 6 sports, they are now down to their bare-bones

Men's sports @ LMU:
attendance sports: (well for LMU they don't draw squat)
MBB
Baseball

country club sports
golf
tennis
H20 polo

their big cut was the T&F umbrella sports, and they kept women's X-country for Title IX, so basically 7 girls running around Weschester to check a TItle IX box. bottom barrel WCC.

after today, San Diego, Pepp, LMU will all be out of the WCC basketball tourney, and on a bus back to SoCal tomm, after a season of 400 people attending all their games. The WCC is not in great shape, albeit Pepperdine will build a magnificent small arena for $250 million ish, but I still doubt they can ever draw more than 500 average in hard to get, low population Malibu.

for Beach, @ 19 sports

the absolute bare bones would be something like
MBB
Baseball
Volleyball

WBB
SOftball
Soccer
Volleyball
Beach VB
Tennis or H20

the latter/last 2 for purposes of Title IX

to me, cutting the T&F umbrella would be vomit inducing. it's not an attendance sport, I go once or 2x a year, I love it, it's fun to see, and we've had great jumpers the last decade. the history @ Beach speaks for itself. It encompasses 6 of the 19 sports

and then the country club sports:
M H20 polo
Golf

W H20 Polo
Golf
Tennis

these have all had success, especially Golf seems to be exceedingly successful in spite of coach turnover - almost amazing the niche that it has even though no one or no students essentially ever watch it

the Big West has actually expanded to cover Beach VB, H20 Polo, MVB in last 8 years.

there is no good answer for any of these sports. we've had great coaches, two of which will leave now.

& then the MBB coach came into a non-existent NIL situation at Beach. reportedly AJ Mitchell got $100k+ to stay @ UCSB, I was told $300k from one source (I'm doubtful on that one, might be 3rd hand/4th hand, didn't presss) probably the exception/outlier for the Big West in any case

& that NIL for AJ got them squat in terms of success last year.

meanwhile, all admins (VP, AD, etc.) are just biding time for useless & rudderless and Leaderless Jane to finally leave and she's been checked out anyway for last year and useless since she got here, and god forbid Beach then gets an interim for yet another year to further delay any clarity.

Acker is going to have trouble offering money, just as Monson was NOT going to retain any of teh 4 guys that left for $50k + each. get real. Askew, don't know. one thing is he's blossomed at Beach. what's that worth to him, plus maybe $2k in NIL here, lol?
