Student enrollment is stagnant and down as population is stagnant in down,
it won't help LBSU if it's not efficient and if other campuses costs drag down LBSU
of course Beach also needs an actual leader instead of the last 6-7 years of Jane jacking up her pension and sapping energy away from the entire university community Previous Message
You don't have any clue how to improve finances or you would be in that role. Keep your hands off staff jobs. Previous Message
Lol
Clueless ? Lol, you are wrong on all counts
1. Yiu have no idea. I've been teaching n public education for 14 years. Private tutor for 6
2.liberal studies is needed. To the degree it pervades every CSU at all CSUs ? Lol give me a break
3. I do not even think you understand CSUs. What was discussed was potentionally reducing probably 10 mil a year in admin....so it can go to frggn teaching dude
Smh with your rote reaction to improve the CSU system finances Previous Message
I see your comments are to steal jobs from staff, you guys should be ashamed. Are you against liberal studies? Cheesus. You honestly have no clue about education. You say CSU's are to only create workers, not students of learning? You retirees have too much time on your hands, I recommend to go volunteer and get to know the real world instead of your bubble. while it might make sense for CSDH,
the better candidates are Channel Islands adn Northridge (Channel Islands is struggling) being #1.
San Marcos with SDSU
maybe even Bake with Fresno State
Sonoma wiht god's knows who
Stanislaus maybe, not sure who.
some of these Cal States are small, not really selective - like admit 99%. they really don't need their own on-site main admin. it's just do it because that's the way it is mentality.
the population (students ) is one of the issues, and the State needs to stop sticking their heads in the sand.
I know what Musk is doing may be too radical in some instances, but it's happening because people are/were fed up with non-responsive govt, they want results and they want their public colleges to be responsive and not produce what they produced in 1970 or 1990. nothing against liberal studies, but this is 2025, majors and the inertia of core classes needs to be responsive for the workplace needs. the goal is create professional workers, not just to create students. hopefully that was not too political, not really a Trump or BIden supporter I can't stand both of what they became and hanging on topower. ok, that's political, lol Previous Message
As I've been advocating for the last year, DH should be absorbed by LB. Good timing that we're recruiting for a new president. Need someone dynamic who could make that happen. Let the current DH prez apply, but if not selected, he could leave or become 2nd in charge. As you mentioned, most of the savings comes from administration...won't need 2 HR, Accounting, Legal and other type staff, just 1. Eliminate academic department heads where the schools overlap in degrees. The schools are about 15 miles apart - there was no geographical need for DH. Problem corrected. (sounding like Elon...scary!) Previous Message
from LA TImes:
I really wish the CS system would shutter 2-3 campuses and/or combine admins. it needs to re-examine many majors at schools, get data on what the grads do after degree, and just pare down. Combine some CSUs, like San Marcos, administer out of SDSU, Dominguez, administer out of LB, Channel Islands out of Northridge. Sonoma State is not gettign students. so long as the population (and student ) growth is stagnant, deal with it. it's just going to hurt the stronger campuses. doubt the CSU ahs gumption to act.
from LA Times:
Many cuts will be made to faculty who actually teach subjects. How many vice presidents, assistant or associate deans and assistant or associate provosts teach classes? Very few.
The chancellor's base salary is nearly $800,000 (she receives more in housing allowances and deferred compensation). The base salaries of the 23 campus presidents range from around $300,000 to nearly $600,000 each. CSU cannot function without faculty, but I always thought it could do perfectly well without most of what has become a bloated administration.
