since 2014.
CDM won 2 championships (2022, and 2024)
note that is 10 years and 20 championships he was competing for. so his success rate was 10%
that's acceptable.
Note; in 2014 attendance was 3500. in 2024 1500 ish
no one would dispute the 4 players were very good , players. the reaons they stayed for 2024 probably had little to do with LT & AT, of course MOnson gets credit for recruiting them
had Monson stayed, they still would have left and got 50k anyway. this year was going to be a total rebuild
and no MOnson did not build anything. no NIL program. attendance a joke. didn't communicate anything. I credit for him building up to 2014, then it's been drip drip to mediocrity since
if Monson had built something, and sustained something, then he would have been retained. It's that simple. again, last year they lost 5 straight entering the BWCT, because he had trouble teaching (like Acker does in different ways).
I only bring up Monson, when this ridiculous notion gets stated that Monson had the program in a good place. it wasn't at all. If a coach needs to be fired to fire up the program/players, that's not a good thing. Previous Message
Loyalty is a beautiful thing and there’s something to the fact that they stayed after getting high achievements in the big west before the championship.
Let’s think:
Jadon Jones: Long Beach native, only offer was Long Beach state out of high school, played as a freshman. Defensive player of the year + regular season champ, continued to stay at LB after that year
Aboubacar Traore: All Big west First team, hustle award, lead league in rebounds, regular season champ, continued to play at Long Beach, and also only had one offer coming out of high school
Lassina Traore: best friend was on the team (Aboubacar), called him his brother in multiple interviews, led league in rebounding, all league player both years at LB I believe, didn’t leave. Entered the transfer portal after his freshman year to join Aboubacar.
If these 3 stayed then the team stayed, simple.
To say Coach Monson didn’t build anything while he was at the beach is simply delusional. “Didn’t win anything” for ####s sake he won 2 championships in his last three years. I remember in one of your posts you had a boner for regular season championships so I can actually use that 2 championships line.
I hope acker can figure out a nil situation with USC and UCLA living on both sides of him. I know you’re a casual because you see the numbers these acc/sec schools bring in and you’re thinking “wow how could Long Beach state not do that” shit ain’t sunshine and rainbows sometimes you simply gotta work with what you got and Monson did a job with what he had. If you knew ball you would know that. But it’s ok casuals are allowed to have opinions too Previous Message
what in hades are you talking about?
the 4 players weren't coming back regardless. fantasyland to think they would.
maybe if CDM had actually inspired things, so that there was some NIL. but for 17 years he built nothing to build upon.

If bringing back a championship winning team and adding one of the best freshman’s in the big west is ugly then you don’t know ball.
Can you do the math for me, on games where Askew or Wainwright have scored over 25 points, how many of them have we won? Previous Message
I get it. this team is struggling to be polite
I just do not get the Acker 'hate'
I watched NEwman, he was livid and yelling at players.
NO, this team is NOT in disarray.
it does lack some talent and experience.
Askew's performance last 26 minutes yesterday was incredible.
yes, the offense does not seem to be able to 'counter' the outside pressure well, or ever back door
Austin seems so much more capable, he started out with major trouble handling ball, spotting open shooters, hence the double teams. then adjusted.
Martin seems to ahve taken a step back, and yesterday got exploited defensively
but the team is not really in disarray, I think it's hard to argue against depending on Askew.
frankly, Hart just sucked first half. Lewis, I mean, he got four wide open 3s. the guy should not be shooting less than 30% like he is. he's got D1 speed, not D1 fluidity
Lewis has to learn to 'slow down' and not rush on offense or even his shot.
but I mean, Lewis has to hit a couple of those wide open 3s, and the game is winnable
the turnovers to start, yeah, it's really troubling.
this year was not going to be pretty. it would not be pretty if MOnson was here, with the 4 guys leaving to chase $$$, and spare us the thought they'd turn down $50k to stay. nonsense.
Acker's gonna have to recruit, he's gonna have to mod the offense, but then depends on who he recruits. SDSU was known for playing a 'plodding' style, with shut down defense. it's liek what we are seeing is 'duh'.
just enjoy the show, it sucks to lose. yeah, guys need to move. whatever Martin showed back in December, he's struggling to repeat now
