Poly really missed Stockham, their other OH could simply not make enough plays
the use of slides Cal Poly made in both semi and final was striking. even without Stockham, Poly ran back row attacks as well. those attacks were non-existant in the last few games for LB. Haven't seen that many slides from a Big West team since BGs.
Both teams were hitting hard serves and swinging hard. those service errors Beach had early in the Poly match seemed to hinder serving the rest of the match. Have to play to win, and serve to win.
Poly had their MB quit earlier in the season, and their Opp benched. the two middles Poly returns developed quite a bit, those two will be tough next year, if Poly can get a solid xfer arm.
Lomgoria ran some slides but the connection on our slides was and has not been very good for some time, They had some poor sets, but Poly was hitting some slides straight down on Hawaii. That has to be fixed, and whoever sets has to set the slide well to hit from a higher point reliably.

Team was timid in big moments and just could not end runs of bad play quickly. Looked like they played not to lose. I know the coaches were always preaching take the big swing but the hitters tipped or pushed ball a lot in crucial times.
I enjoyed watching the Poly vs Hawaii final because both teams swing hard. The two late injuries killed Poly but the do have some young hitters on that team. Previous Message
Why would the team have a killer mentality when their head coach doesn't?

program needs to take on a 'chip on their shoulder' mentality next year.
beating Davis was a must win game and seemed like they might have turned the corner mentally, didn't build on it
it's ok to fail. ok to enjoy. it's not ok to accept failure though. top 25 teams do not care about what their opponents are going thru Previous Message
Just wish the team could have passed better and stayed in system more to see them at their best. When they are in system they can really terminate the ball and have big runs. Cal Poly put a lot of pressure on LBSU. Previous Message
couldn't beat Poly, playing with their back-up setter
Seems like early service errors caused Beach to not serve agressively, coupled with Poly handled serves well
lost the receive and setting battle, both 6-2 setters location was off too many times
& only got blocked 1 time, and Poly got tons of soft touchs
Poly ran more slides than seemed like had faced the entire conference season, and with a back-up setter
& Stockham went down on her ankle on the next to last play, so hard to see Poly winning in the final unless it wasn't as bad as it looked.
gonna be interesting what happens with Meyer now and the setter position next year.
