Was glad to see Livi get in the match for all three sets. From the box score looked like a yeomans appearance. That said, I was impressed with her last year when she stepped in for those 3-4 matches and played Weill. Including a high hitting percentage. With her beach experience, wondering if she might be able to help out in service receipt? Previous Message
improve to 4-1, tied for first. a mixed bag performance, got out of the first set, and then rolled.
receiving still the #1 issue, cannot have these players in the backcourt continually break down in stretches - literally they shank or overpass 3 to 4 successive plays, vs. Northridge or RIverside can get away with that. not so much with Hawaii or others.
this team will not win 3 straight in the BWCT this way. I do not understand why Natalie hasn't experimented a little bit. nothing to lose by shaking things up a bit. Robyn does that in Hawaii and somehow every year by mid-November she has 'drilled' that squad into a NCAA tournament team
the staff keeps trotting out the same libero/DS rotations? and it has worked well a few times, been so-so at times, and like vs. Hawaii and Washington was an absolute MESS back there.
Giambi plays only when side is serving, she reads/digs/passes well. There to also utilize her short and float alternately when serving
on the plus side, Harris and Maddox keep looking incrementally better, better control of shots, granted North maybe not the best examination, still they are progressing which is great
why not try Abby some at DS, helps preseve her leg, she can add a back-row attack, best receiver. not saying that's the best. maybe she's only good receiving not digging, I don't know
good thing is when Abby returns she improves the receiving, albeit they won't be aiming at her.
the Big West coaches are gonna hammer the ball/serves at Chacon, Glenn, Velucci. the eyes do not lie. frankly they 'lose it' sometimes. the receiving needs improvement, maybe mental but by this time those players better get ahold of their focus and attack those receptions. can't have 2nd basemen backing up and letting the grounders play them so to speak.
the MB attack was back on track last night, Bacon looked the best she's been, which makes the UCSD & Hawaii matches seem even more a head-scratcher, but again it was Northridge
Meyer was back looking her best as well. but Northridge unlike Hawaii seemed unprepared for her dumps, Hawaii was totally prepared.
Bakersfield is playing well and at a level of teh other top teams with an athletic MB. it'll be a battle
right now Beach is 45 in RPI, and 51 in KPI with no margin for error and Big West won't help much opponent strength of schedule going forward, so can't really fantaisize too much about an at-large
it's getting a top 2 seed for the BWCT and winning two matches the ideal set-up for the BWCT, yeah winning the BIg West and a #1 seed of course. Right now with 6 teams essentially tied for first, even getting to the BWCT has to be earned.
after Bake, they play 8 of last 12 at home, so tomm's match a nice performance would set up the team well. Tommorrow's match should be interesting, would be good to see them put together a solid road performance.
at times, they look like a top 25 team, just not often enough
