having watched matches, this is very well wide open.
Irvine, Davis, Cal Poly, UCSD I think all did well in non-conference to show improved from last year, especially Irvine and Davis.
Cal Poly even might expected to be better, but they lost their OH Marchovska who looked vastly improved in the 3rd match. She's returned, and THey are undefeated in every match she has been in at the end of a match. 5-0 with her. She was a 0.18 hitter last year and hitting close to 0.300 this year.
UCSB had the most reloading to do, and it shows. A super tough schedule, still they did not look to good vs. Bake. Still would not rule them out of the BWCT and who knows, after yesterday doubts they can win the regular season.
Hawaii had a lot to replace, and it really shows. They look really athletic though. I watched thru the mid 3rd set, then figured they'd sweep but they lost it obviously last night
I think we were a team that would be a bit at the same as last year, especially without Agi. The new players have showed improvement, and we've started to look pretty good.
it's early, I think Cal Poly is the favorite, not overwhelming though. Their two pins are just really good with OOS. But could see a number of teams winning conference or the BWCT.
a lot of teams like us have really poor passing stretches, so that'll mean upsets.
the top 7 teams returned their setters. some OH hitters have gotten even better and a lot better. Poly's Marchovska, GLenn, Irvine's Hidl (sic), Davis' Light, haven't seen UCSD McMannis, and especially Hawaii's Alexander (who left injured yesterday, yikes for Hawaii).
So it's just deeper competition, combined with UCSB & Hawaii not quite as good - so wide open. Previous Message
Yesterday, Bake swept UCSB and UCI beat Hawaii on the road. Cal Poly still the overwhelming favorite?
