only SDSU & Cal Poly SLO have a lower admit rate.
granted. Long Beach benefits with tons of applications from an ideal location in So Cal that students apply to have that 'value' option, just as UCLA benefits for the same reason in their admit rate.
If I was a potential med student or pre-law, not sure why I would go to UCLA to beat my brains out silly with 24/7 cut-throat competition to get A s and being taught by TAs, when granted Long Beach is not as academically high rated, but could get better one on one time and access and frankly could a great resume via Long Beach. I wonder what the stats say about Long Beach med school applicants compared to other UCLA, Loyola, Pepperdine, Irvine, and USC that gets lots of pre-med, pre-law wanna-bes. Previous Message
Ratings, of course, are subjective and really based on the criteria that is applied. However, like it or not, the U.S. News and World Report rankings is considered the gold standard for rating colleges, so its important for Long Beach State to try and maintain their high ranking from year to year. Long Beach adn SDSU really are not National Universities, regardless of their limited PhD associations
I take these with a grain of salt. Aside from Cal Poly being the top ranked of all Cal States. their mid-career salary ranking of BS/BA grads blows away any other Cal State and higher than most of the UCs including UCLA.
Cal Poly - SLO
SDSU
Cal Poly - Pomona
are the top 3 state universities
then
Long Beach certain has merit as the top of the next tier
maybe including in that 2nd tier
Long Beach (most selective of the 2nd tier, with a highly selective 40% admit rate)
Fullerton
Northridge
San Jose State
Chico
after that it's debatable the academic standing, as anyone that breathes should be able to get into any other Cal State
god, why did the Big West add Bakersfield. smh

Long Beach State ranked #109 in the national university category, tied with San Diego State, as the highest rated CSU school. Cal Poly is ranked #1 in the western regional school category.
