after getting walloped 1st set, Beach made a run to get close 2nd, then carried over and had a solid lead 2nd, only to give up a late ASU serving run. ASU closed out after 22-22
Good: Glenn had a monster tournament. people should go see her, making the most of her senior year, and one of the top servers in the country with her Sandy Kofax curve ball.
Maxell got in and after another poor start with erros, was piling up kills esarly 3rd set. good to see her get reps vs quality compeition
Chacon had a solid tourny, by stats, and serving.
Harris also got in and got some points
the serving was solid. few errors both matches and scored more aces than their opponents
the left sides just have to keep progressing. just too many errors and not erros from gettign blocked, meaning (my guess?) they are getting intimidated and not good and facing blocks since hitting way too many out balls. gotta learn to hit thru blocks, you are gonna get stuffed, but liek the saying for putting in golf, 99% of balls that go out do not go in! can't have 8 errors a set - collectively the lefts cutting down just two errors a set will make a huge difference. gotta keep progressing.
the stats say the passing kept improving. Maxwell, Vellucci, Harris the entire squad needs to keep progressing.
all the left sides and liberos and the team raised their passing stats this week, that's good news.
next week is good test. they can win a couple matches potentially. winning all 3 will be tough.
just bummed they could not grind thru a 3rd set win, and see what happened playing an ASU squad recoverig from a short turn-around playing Nebraska last night.
