they'll be waiting for 5 years. I can't believe that's remotely a possibility. They would lose even more money to the ACC, as well as make less money in this Pac6+.
that would be a hope is all, a hope the ACC dissolves and Cal/Stan have no other choice, which Cal/Stan would go begging to the B1G again, they wouldn't just go to this Pac6+ unless it was for a couple years parking sports only, they'd go indy because this Pac6+ won't be getting anywhere near $30 mil a year per school. no way
PAC 12 waiting to see if Standford and Cal want back in, that's why 2 spaces are left. Next logical market is UNLV. PAC 12 needs the new TV contract to survive at a high level and will only look at "market areas". All the other MW schools have already been rejected by not being invited.
I don't think Hawaii will be thinking football only
if Hawaii goes, it's all sports
this group is much less travel than they had in the 'old' MWC.
Hawaii would jump for all sports since it's Fresno, SDSU, OSU, WSU, Boise. I don't see Hawaii going only for football or the P6 wanting them only for football.
Hawaii (football only) and Gonzaga (all sports). I'm sure the Big West would be ok with this arrangement whether Hawaii is in the MWC or Pac2.
not so sure Hawaii packages with Gonzaga
Gonzaga is a basketball only add
I think if it's two more teams from the west, Hawaii & UNLV make a little sense. Nevada & AIr Force IMO are the long-shots or possible shots. how much the Nevada political system tries to push UNLV so long as Nevada gets in.
I have to believe they are looking at Tulane/Memphis and one other team in that region for some media reasons. They want to have 4 teams that have enough critical mass in some solid cities/regions to get some really good financial benefits.
I fantasized about Long Beach coming in with Gonzaga as basketball only, even though Beach is really not there, but has a decent arena (with a leaky roof). plus Long Beach history in broad based Commie Cup, bringing a LA/OC media aspect.
Hawaii and SJSU are longshots for the Pac2 but I wouldn't count them out. Hawaii TV market is not huge but they have good ratings. Maybe a Hawaii/Gonzaga combo would work. SJSU was counted out of the WAC and MWC but managed to get into both. With both Fresno and SD getting an invite, there may be some politicking to get the Spartans in. They are likely doomed to the Big Sky if the Pac2 doesn't materialize and the MWC implodes...
with teh Mountain West crumbling, have to wonder
would a 6 team FCS California football league take place, like the Big West, since San Jose State may end up in no man's land.
San Jose State
Sac State
Cal Poly
UC Davis
San Diego
Hawaii
as these things go, the Mountain West will likely be headed to a lower type of cobbled together conference, and who knows how desparate they'd become.
none of these Cali universities have the requisite or will ahve the requisite football stadium to remain viable for D1 let alone P4 competitive.
I do suspect Hawaii will be making overtures to this new Pac-6 + construct - to me if I was in their shoes it would make sense. now whether this new Pac-6 group would welcome Hawaii is another matter, there are issues Hawaii presents aside from the novelty travel desitination aspect
also think UNLV will end up in this new Pac-6+, but we shall see. the Mountain West is toast aside from they have a pool of serious short term money from the defections.
