and frankly the mission of College is not to be a pro sports franchise
Now I doubt Congress would step in and simply stop the charade. Legislate no athletic scholarship, period. No Federal funding for schools that pay athletes, to eliminate a source of lawsuits. Make college choose between being an academic institution and a sports franchise. I don't have an issue with NIL, since why should any college student in any field not go out and earn money based on their name.
but Congress wouldn't touch that, it's one of those issues that needs legislation but no legislator wants to get involved.
and still not sure how it ends up. IMO, there's no need for pro college sports, certainly not 80-100 'pro' fanchises. we have the NFL, we have the NBA
college is just a bunch of bull-sh*t now since the charade is completely over.
I'd like to believe there could be a niche for Long Beach and the Big West - I'm not even sure Beach could compete in against a Moutain West-Big West 2nd tier with these new rules.

we went to the NCAA in MBB, a huge core of 4 talents all left. it'll happen almost every year
if our WVB reaches the NCAAs this year, it might be the last because say the top 3 players will get offeres they might not be able to refuse.
it probably was a factor in Tyler leaving, getting out while he could and getting some P4 security
just been hoping for one or two more years since the 2022 MBB returned with high hopes
no longer, none of use can have much of ay expectations of player continuity, especially top player continuity
had the MBB core returned, we had a potential sweet 16 team.

Congress wont' act, it'll just be a weird 5 to 10 years, I'm not even sure what itlooks like in 10 years. Everytime the big boys get more money, aside from Texas ad Ohio State the rest of them usually end up in deficit again.

If Beach is back in in a conference with Pomona and San Berdu in 5 years, it would not be a shock. basically high level club sports
the money and schollie rules are designed to creat mega-rosters and dominate the talent.
the non-P4 can't unite, because the FResnos and Gonazags and Beach and Butler's and Big Sky all have different aspirations
I'd say right no, our own AD has not idea what to plan for, it's triage lol
anyway, we have at least one more year of pretending or aspiring for D1, until the yearly roster gutting goes thru another 2 or 3 cycles and cause a loss of interest

We now have a semi-professional model in college athletics but are heading towards a pure professional model where all collegiate athletes will be deemed employees and colleges will be deemed employers. Assuming that happens, I can’t see how colleges can run athletic programs with athletes who don’t receive NIL related compensation or non-scholarship athletes. If being a college athlete is deemed work which has some compensatory value, why would it matter whether your school earns a profit or not from these activities? If I work for a restaurant that isn’t making a profit, I still get paid for my “work”.
The only way I can see this working is to separate athletics from the university organization, creating an auxiliary entity (like the CSULB Foundation) that will run athletics like a business. Athletes will no longer be required to be enrolled students and will no longer receive scholarships to pay for attending classes and room & board. The athletes will likely be represented by a union to negotiate their salaries. Athletes will be hired and fired just like employees of any other business. Like minded schools with similar budgets (for salaries) will be in the same conferences (maybe the Big West could survive).
Word of caution for current and ex-athletes who are pushing for more and more compensation, you will have less and less opportunities to compete. I see your fate being similar to fast food workers who think there are no repercussions from illogical minimum pay raises. Many of those workers will lose their jobs and/or have their hours/shifts cut as we are beginning to witness.

as has been posted, the schollie limits below could add 160 schollies! for each school with all those sports
even if for Beach it added 120,
look at it this was:
120 x $30k = $3.6 million a year (not even counting NIL)
it's simply impossible to fund this
for the P4, even if they are private and are $60k a year, that's maybe a $7.5 million a year increase, presumably coming out of Football money
it truly is unmatchable on two levels. no money, and even if one HAD the money, there are now 10,000 athletes with available schollies from the 80 or so schools getting that football money
I don't even know how Cal can deal with this, their budget is so bad, or Wash State or ORegon State, this limit change isn't going help a lot of lower tier P4s meet budget.
not sure what Beach can do, can Beach actually do full schollie's in MVB, about the last sport can compete in? and not also increase in say Beach VB

well, enjoy what Beach has this year, it's been a slippery slope, and have hung on, just not clear how and in what way Beach and the Big West will go
I actually think there's a chance the WCC may entertain inviting 3 or 4 of the UCs into the WCC now. I'm not sure the Big West will be stable. Maybe Cal Poly & Davis will re-think to go to the Big Sky, simply because it's like-type schools with football and towns that have 100,000 population
the Big West model had held, because of keeping costs down, not sure what the model will be going forward.
outside the P4, nobody wants to get left behind, but this on top of NIL, the entire "If I"m not P4 football" model almost needs to abandon the NCAA, the NCAA is just a shell organization for the P4
