MVB sweeps NOrthridge, clinched at BWCT title and is a regular season champion again.
2017 MPSF champions
2018-2019 Big West Champions
2022,2023,2024 Big West Champions
only other finish was 3rd in 2021.
now beat Irvine and win it outright, and get the #1 seed.
Hawaii could possibly get the #2 seed if Beach beats Irvine twice, and Hawaii beats UCSD twice.
I think at least one win vs. Irvine, would pretty much clinch an at-large to the NCAA, as with 3 losses max it's hard to see any other team having a better resume, with Grand Canyon losing twice vs. UCLA, and Hawaii would have at least 6 losses.
still beat Irvine twice and win the damn Big West conference tourney in Hawaii.
factoid, the #2 seed has one the BWCT every time in Hawaii
#2 Hawaii in 2019 over #1 Beach
#2 UCSB in 2021 over #4 UCSD
#2 Hawaii in 2022 over #1 Beach
no reason though to be superstitious
Irvine will be very difficult. Heno is likely the National PLayer of the Year, or if not, then likely UCLA's setter Rowan. Heno has a great variety of shots and a wicked lefty serve.
Irvine will be fighting for at least a #2 seed/
the NCAA tournament would likely be
Beach #1, if Beach wins the BWCT
UCLA #2
UCLA #1, if UCLA wins the MPSF, and Beach #2 if Beach does not win the BWCT
Hawaii #3.
Grand Canyon #4
Penn State #5 (if they win the EIVA, George Mason is playing well, so could see GMU possibly winning this year)
Ball State #6 (if they win the MIVA, but that conference is a crap shoot)
Irvine probably has to almost win the BWCT at this point to get in.
This is a really deep Beach team, namely with McRaven and Harlan stepping in. Hoping Bouchkov does get some more reps somehow, never know if he might be needed, crazy he is the #1 blocker in the country statistically and not playing last 3 weeks.
Godbold as well, hopefully gets some reps, just got to believe we'll need his arm.
Beach is 5-1 vs top 10 teams (PSU, Pepp, Hawaii 2x, UCLA 1-1),
and yet will likely play 6 top 5/10 teams now in the next 6 matches. the Real season starts this week.
for how good Beach's record is, still some nagging thoughts given the SOS wasn't super high this year.
have to cut down just 1 or 2 Service errors a set to be at the elite level needed for a Natty. The defense has been stellar. Harlan made a sensational solo block the coming all the way over last night. big crowd in Northridge, was a good environament. Never let Northridge get any sort of lead all weekend. Northridge's serve puts a lot of pressure on.
