Just read an article that interviewed Eirc Laub, who is head of the Utah State NIL basketball collective. He just had his second HC (in the last two years) leave the Aggies after making the NCAA field. He basically says...that if you want to attract an elite starter in the conference, the going rate is about $100,000 (that would be a year). And, to put a competitive/championship caliber "team" together...you're looking at about $500,000. He made reference to his belief that there are multiple teams in the MWC that have NIL basketball collectives of $1M. This is what I feared..."playerflation" is going to price some schools out of the market. Also the cost of a basketball coach is rising off the chart, as well. Danny Sprinkle (Aggie HC)....was making $950,000 a year at USU. Now he is making....$3.6M a year at Washington. The average salary of an NBA coach is $3.5M. Go figure! Nevada is in the process of trying to hold on to their coach (Steve Alford). His current salary is $1.1M a year....the rumours are swirling that he may command a $1.8M-$2.0M after taking the Wolf Pack to 2 NCAA Tournaments. Okie State just fired a guy that was making $3M a years...if they lure Alford, he coud be looking at well over that amount. To make the frustration even more acute for the mid-majors...$3M a year ranks only 40th amongst D1 HC's.

yes, the AD or MBB coach can not and will not run NIL
make no mistake, the AD and MBB are the ones to make sure NIL takes place
the AD has to bite the bullett a bit and know that some boosters/fans will donate to a collective at some expense to donating to the athletic department. of course they hope it's more than a zero sum game, and that NIL gets funding without affecting athletic department donations
teh failure of any NIL for MBB, and that none is or was in place is another reason MOnson had to leave. just one more thing he saw as somebody else's job and not his job.
the coach & AD gather and promote via boosters and fans, then is able to convince them to form/fund a collective.
MVB did it, does anybody reallly think that doesn't happen without Knipe doing some of the faciliting? no.
otherwise it won't happen. Anybody that thinks Smitheran didn't talk to Monson about NIL is stupid. And Monson's likely input was either: I don't know what to do or don't think I'm the one that has to do/promote it. everyone say the last two weeks what he is good at promoting.
