Bob Williams came from CCAA, as did Pat Douglas (who Beach passed on), as did Newman.
they may not always be a right fit for D1, just many of those guys can flat out coach and know the game.
besides we've tried assistants and they aren't always 'proven'
besides, what is 'proven'?. Monson is 'proven', should Beach try to hire him back?
No disrespect, but hellzno! We need someone more proven! No projects or experiments! Besides, we already tried this and it didn't work! Remember Reynolds?!
lot's of good coaches are in the CCAA, plus doesn't pay like D1, but the job security is typically a lot better, & no message boards lol
it's good basketball & VB to watch. and doubt they miss NOrthridge, Poly, Davis, & Riverside
Cal Poly is a tough gig for basketball. none of their D1 period coaches has ever succeeded enough to make the coach a sought after coach. a new coach should demand a 7 year contract lol
Saw on the Cal Poly board that Gus Argenal, Cal State San Berdue HC, made it as a finalist for their HC vacancy. After looking over his bio (see below), it might be wise for the Niners to check in on him. This is his first year at CSUSB but he has 19 years of coaching experience, mostly as a D1 assistant, but he also was head coach at CSU East Bay and failed. Prior to CSUSB, he was an assistant for Musselman at Arkansas for 2 years. In this, his first year, CSUSB has made it to semi-finals of the NCAA D2 tournament. They play Tuesday for a chance to get into the D2 championship game. He replaced Newman who took the CSUN position last year and did an impressive job. Their coaching backgrounds appear to be similar, although they haven't worked together.
