I'm not sure what you are disagreeing with, or what your argument is, other than to just disagree.
I don't think Monson's contract should have been re-newed even if he had won the Big West Tournament and auto-bid without Smitheran announcing it early. Monson didn't deserve an extension under any circumstances, and Smitheran could have made that case regardless of the result in the BW tournament.
My point is that it's silly to defend Smitheran's claim that firing him early was an intentional attempt to "fire up the team".
I really disagree. The entire season aside from Michigan and USC was a disaster, ending in horrilbe showings at the PYrmaid
like people think there was some 'perfect' way to end, and there was absolutely NO indication this coach and team had the ability to win 3 in 3, especially against Irvine & Davis
he'd seen enough after the Davis game, Monson knew he wasn't performning, so there never was going to be some 'right way' to terminate him. Monson had been given so much rope since 2017, and had and has no right to say anything other than 'I had my chance and didn't deliver
if they had waited to announce, we probably bow out after Riverside, you have to credit Smiteran for the decision, agreement, timing. Monson really hadn't earned the right to coach the BWCT, and yes it turned out great I can't fault Smitheran, the plug could have been pulled for good reason after a November that was a Michigan win and mostly crap with a veteran team.
Smitheran is saying "I meant for this to happen." Why would you want to fire a coach and then have them coach the team into the Tournament? It's preposterous and a pathetic response to being embarassed.
If Smitheran wanted to achieve this, he simply should have told Monson that there would be contract discussions until after the season was over.
I don't see this as Smitheran taking credit, more so he's fed up with Monson in part disparaging Smitheran and Long Beach State, and Monson doing very little to dissuade some of that.
Monson is still the coach at Long Beach, and has a responsibiity to honor Beach appropriately.
don't blame him, referenced from Brown Board.
Monson has been taken a lot of subtle digs at him and the University the last week,
Justified response. If Monson isn't gong to end these interviews and emphatically acknowledge his lack of performance and Beach giving him an extra long leash last 5 years, and making it about Beach and not himself, this response was totally justified.
praise the players and the Unversity Monson, not make it your audition for being some TV funny guy.
let's hope we keep winning, and then Monson can keep up with his bozo the clown act.
