any new D1 head coach already has a mentor. They want hungry assistants that work long hours, live and breath basketball, and are out recruiting 24/7. Does that sound like Monson?
I guess anything is possible.
good for him if he lands a good fit, some people are indulging in a lot of fantasy right now.
I think the only comparable situation was Northridge for the coaching staff of Harrick being an assistant on that staff of coaches known for NCAA violations, lol
Gottfried hired a buddy in that case. Harrick though had a much better established record of winning all over the place, Pepperdine, UCLA, Rhode Island, Georgia vs. Monson parlaying a one good NCAA run in 1998 and a single BWCT tourney win in 2012 into longevity. but then Harrick took a lot of liberties that Monson doesn't, lol.
In one of those interviews, he mentioned being an assistant to mentor a "young head coach". IF that happens, he could potentially make the same or even more than what he was making at LBSU. Maybe he'll be pursued as a head coach at the D2 level.
based on 15 minutes of fame?
he actually has to answer the question from an AD, that's even if he gets an interview, he has to talk to his last 8 years at Beach, and especially this last year. how's he gonna respond, we'll we had injuries, ....excuses? ADs and hiring managers don't hire people that give excuses in interview.
& Monson knows all this, he's just milking this for all it's worth, which I guess to many people they think that represents Class. smh.
he has to answer real tough questions about WHY he was dismissed.
he's 62, like really an AD will give a 5 year contract and sell that to his boss as a long-term plan?
here's a contract I'd give him, you get fired every year, because that's the motivation that seems to work to make your teams play to their capability, lol
