the not so promising. the start of the game:
coming out and giving up way to easy pick n rolls unobstructed to the basket. have to hedge better to prevent the pass, and then need to pick up the ig rolling, can't have dunks
Silva & Messiah starts: not good passes, both were overwhelmed early. maybe start with a weave early to get these guys a feel for the game. they need to be ready
late game stagnations: among the heroics, there were some frankly horrible possessions, standing too long too early. Tsohonis got stripped, I think partly from just starting the offense way too late. Tsohonis threw up some putrid forced 3s, not set again.
Jones trying to get fouled. I know he does get that 3 pt foul, can move his legs body to draw it. still it's a BAD thing. he will get called for an offensive foul one of these times, it's ok to jump a bit forward, but really that shot is straight up and down, and no, even minor, flailing of legs. he is too caught up in trying to draw those fouls. he's still only shooting low 0.300s and he should be 0.350 and above for his length and form, and I believe part of it is he is so attuned to trying to draw a foul when he shoots a 3. just focus on the shot, you get fouled you get fouled. make the damn shot Jones. he's got great form and should be more consistant. yes, he got a 4 point play, but the occasional drawing foul is not worth distracting oneself from the shot itself.
the promising.
forget Tsohonis solid FTs in the stretch, and great iso shots, the key to me is that long 3 he was facing straight to the bucket, the inside plays aside from one it was only one defender. the PASSES he made are the key, has to keep playing like a role player. the OT defense on Collier, that bounce pass on the break to AT, and that drop down inside pass to AT. the role plays and not trying to do too much he has to keep in that mind-set. score without trying to score.
Jones. Boards, he's rebounding more aggressively last couple games
AJ & Messiah. 1st game where both were more what to expect. AJ had blocks, inside scores, position & for MEssiah more defensive minded, plus he made plays finally, that pick n roll easy open (not forced) jump shot, and the dish inside to AT
FTs. Jones, Tsohonis are clearly a cut above
our bigs though are a problem, they don't need to shoot 80%, but sub 60% is gonna continue to cost games from Stroud, AT, LT, 70% isn't too much to ask for, all have decent form, and they are and will get fouled. all 3 have decent form, they are the drag on our FT shooting.
interestingly, our FT shooting must affect our opponents, as we are solid on our FT defense, lol, opponents brick against us as well, which well can't can't on that continuing.
