what went right
Silva was efficient, early drives to the hoop, spot on passes. nice 3. finally looked like that hoped for point guard,
Jones play inside the arc. where in hades has that 12 foot jumper been? taking them off of curls, straight up, no attempt to draw a foul. frankly it's the type of shot Tsohonis should be taking in the flow of the offense
flow to offense. we ran offense, hard to not notice the best flow occured when we didn't have Tsohonis to run iso plays thru.. Had a lot of nice set easy 3s, even if a number of them (stroud, At) didn't fall. lots of sweet passes hitting cutters to the basket.
AT end of game dominance, in the end AT makes plays in the stretch, passes, high-flying blocks, slams, his presence at the end of games is impressive.
Hart sighting, 1st time he made plays and strung together that nice 1st half stretch of passes
dance team looks great, now hopefully they'll actually dance next time, lol, but they are hot especially for a BIg West dance team. Band is solid, now where were they for VB, lol?!
on the other hand,
Sacramento State isn't very good, they had some speed and hit boards. what would happen if they actually put real pressure on Silva?, entire game they did not put a lot of pressure on him or passing lanes.
boards. jeez, we are not a good rebounding team. we have 2 guys that can get rebounds, but it shouldn't come down to AT having to climb a foot and a half over a player to snag critical boards. Sac State early was having a free for all hitting the boards. this stage of careers, it's pretty bad we have guys that don't look to block out early and it leads extra possessions each game. it's been 9 games, and have yet to witness anyone try to seal off a defender away from the bucket, ala Drew Cobb or Rotegaard. I do think we miss Rotegaard on the boards, Tobias didn't get a lot of boards but he put his body on someone every damn time, that leads to easier boards for LT or AT or others. This team is missing a Drew Cobb, which I though Aj would be more of defensively this year, especially as teams shoot more and more 3s, you have to seal guys for longer rebounds
the team should have enough talent to win games against bad opponents if any one player, including AT, LT, or Tsohonis misses a game.
a week before SC, and 3 weeks before conference, and overall it's still a team that is pretty much similar version to last year's and that's not much. SC is gonna run over these guys at this rate. Still we've got AT to fly all over the place, so who knows
#1) broken record, guys need to hit weights, we lose strength plays and while we play hard defense, we don't complete defensive strength plays on closing 3s, blocking out, 50-50 plays, . AJ I thought would be a bit more chisled and forceful. Polynice didn't look strong at all out there.
no full court press at any time, seemed a head scratcher, guess it's only for waiting to the end in emergencies.
officiating: how in hades does the girl doing a back-flip after a nice bucket not win?
one shouldn't have to go home to find out what the score of the game was, lol,
1800? for a long awaited home opener? ], lively, and hopefully we keep finding more 8 year olds to keep it somewhat filled. a pause for accounting: 1500 less fans that what it should be for a 16 year coach for the last 6 years, for 10 home games, and $20 a ticket is: 20 x 1500 x 10 x 6 = $1.8 million dollars. Question: does CDM's contract allow the school to deduct from his salary $300k a year for fulfilling his part of the bargain? Just asking!!!!
the list of 'what didn't happen over the summer' was there again, aside from Jones showing he can score inside the arc. does he just not do that now if Tsohonis is playing, lol.
AT lack of confidence in an outside shot
AJ seems not stronger in any one phase of the game
LT can't play on the left side of the bucket, and not left hand
