MOntana State on Sunday will be a chore, fly back, then practice, then take some hopper to Bozeman, yikes. when the 2012 team went to Montana after a brutal travel grind, they got spanked
some clear things.
AT is the cog, glue, motor. just has not taken or hit an outside shot. still hoping that can happen, but by combo of design/reluctance/etc. not looking in the cards so far
good Tsohonis and bad Tsohonis. somewhat encouraging some of his assists and boards, albeit yesterday a really horrific/bad non-block out that resulted in giving up an offensive board and 2 points.
boards: not just him, all the guards are pathetic with not putting bodies on guys. that is the #1 thing that has to change with this team. the stats don't tell the entire story. we've gone from a +10 board team last Feb 1 to swivel head team that watches the ball in the air. that is not how to rebound. watch San Diego State, they are men, and they seal their man when the ball goes up. why is this so hard?
AJ: he was our leading 3 pt shooter last year, and is 1-1 from the 3? in 6 games? does anybody have some reasonable explaination why this is occuring? I guess the staff figured last year was an aberation, lol. granted 1st game he seemed out of sorts. but 6 games and one attempt.
Jones: healthy, like Tsohnois, and yes both them are shooting the 3 better thank god. Jones is streaky, great for 3 some games, and bad 3 games. that's the 3. his TOs and board technique are the issue
LT: I think teams have tape on him, basically he'll have to be patient. he needs position pretty far down low to be effective
Messiah: looks good and also just has not found a good passing or shooting rhythm. I do believe likely to change. his past has no indication of this. to me this is the biggest potential upside to this team.
Silva: nothing unexpected to me. he'll have to prove with better defense, boards, but IMO he's best suited to play more off guard or sub point, cause he's not D1 speed or muscle
team is pretty much same team as last year, sigh, just healthier at this point, sigh. hope this gets proven wrong. have no absolutely no idea what the team/players did over the summer. no left hand for LT. no outside shot for AT, no strength for Silva, no muscle for Jones. AJ - just expected to be a bit more chisled. Tsohonis is healthy. still a lot of iso forced brain farts.
I don't see much in the way of any player developing some better skill like we saw in Samuels finishing abiilty, Edis control/passing,LAX 3 pt shot, Caffey's shooting form sr year, Bibbs bulking up soph year, Slater strength senior year. sorry, didn't happen. maybe someone can point out what skill got tweaked or added to a game.
Monson looks the same, vacilates between lost, haggard, animated, he did slam something against SDSU like the chair he kicked years ago.
would be good to have higher expectations. Not sure what they are for this team. does anyone know? it's not really clear at all what the expectations are from the AD, coach, program. I think it's to peak for the BWCT!! what a goal!!! whatever that means.
maybe today will be a reset?
hopefully smack the Cajuns around a bit.
