1) For whatever reason, they don't perform per the 'hype', and likely many players still go to greener pa$tures for their sr/grad year
2) They hype is realized, the team finishes with a title or two, and a post-season win or two;, and anybody that doesn't think next year's core returning talent won't get $50k or so forth offers from the underbelly of college sports is delusional
Regardless, at the end and the way things are headed, the end of season will likely have a very large uncertainty period
I'm a big fan of certainty where certainty makes sense. In the case of MBB, I believe it makes sense to announce Scholl as the Head Coach in waiting. It doesn't undercut MOnson, even if Monson would in his mind like to continue. Don't need to go into MOnson's extensive baggage and drawbacks again.
Change is good, and certainty can be good. Yep, I really don't know how effective at skills training or game coach Scholl is. CDM has never impressed upon me as a skills trainer as it is. What I do know is Scholl has a background with a great example of education and learning. He has a law degree for heaven's sake. He was long-term at LMU, Levin followed him. He has been long-term at Beach, and yes thru some pretty poor years. Still as a lead recruiter, he's got his thumbprints on this team, with his African connections and the Traores. Give him and the current staff a 3 year extension, let CDM ride off with certainty and purpose. At least it would allow continuity and maybe a better plan rather than just potentially 2 months of uncertainty and scattering after season end. I can't believe regardless that CDM would get extended. even if we won in the NCAAs, at best it would be two NCAAs in 16 years, cmon. Maybe others have more insight. I would like to see Scholl and the assistants have weekly pressers like MVB & WVB, and frankly I don't have much interest in listening to CDM much at this point, it's long past due that he hasn't communicated well by any measure with the fan/alumni base over the last 15 years.
or, can wait until after the season, and basically start over, even if the CDM was extended by whatever logic was used (CDM's performance and AD oversight of his University promotion have defied logic for years), and which I expect could be some significant roster changes anyway.
Maybe the WVB/MVB isn't the right example of how a program culture is shared, executed, and run. if so, can someone please explain clearly why MBB is so different that it can't be as successful? has MBB been watching and listening.
I know it won't likely happen, but would love to see the season kicked off with Scholl (and other staff) in the wings, and give him a shot. what exactly would be the drawback?
