I would be very disappointed if Markus is not selected as the AD. Hands down has the most varied experience......marketing, development, capital projects, FINANCE both private sector and public sector (that should resonate with Apel).
He would appear best suited to making coaching decisions. In short order, the AD has two decisions ahead....MBB and men's baseball.
to end the overanalysis of the candidates, lol

there's just not much out there on this guy. He's an Aztec for life I guess.
in likely order. J
1) Markus Jennings. 53 years old. on paper extensive experience with a fund-raising role, 8 years as Sac State. IMO most likely to not jump except success would likely make that a moot point. The only one that has the background & things in bio that suggest closest to an AD. student-athlete, fund-raising roles. per the bio, his bio isn't on the compliance side of the AD functions.
2) Marcy Lanoue, 38 years old.
can't really tell a dang thing about what she's actually accomplished other than getting promotions. don't mean that in a negative way, just there's nothing that's clear about anything on her bio. SWA and external relations, marketing. ok. based on her resume, she'd be teh most likely to jump and use Beach as a stepping stone. no indication she played collegiate sports. degree in communications. so given her bio and history, seems she certainly knows how to communicate well. what that translates to is unknown and this woman is a total 'flyer' as to if she would actually be what Beach needs in terms of development/NIL/$$ success. total flyer hire IMO. can or will she actually translate her skills towards beating the bushes in the city and with business would be a big question mark. Only thing I'm certain of is we'd get a well-spoken AD, but then that's pretty typical of candidates that get that far. real mystery for this one.
2b) SMitheran, SDSU, 49 years old
strongest compliance and student-athlete support and interaction background. less so and almost nothing on the marketing/developing background. Is that a drawback? don't know, but not sure how someone who is 49 years old is all of the sudden going to know how to beat the bushes and excel in that area, after a career of not being in that area of expertise. this is a nuts and bolts admin type of hire. I just don't see it though given the other candidates. baseball player like Jennings. would think maybe the most likely to set down roots s given his history in Cali and length of service in the CS system.
if I were to guess, unless he flubbed and didn't say the right things, Jennings will be the guy.
the SD lady is total mystery background, but who knows.
+ CollegeAD also reports on the three finalists for Long Beach State’s opening, all three of whom visited campus in the past week: Akron Deputy AD/COO Markus Jennings, San Diego Senior Assoc. AD/SWA/Chief Development Officer Marcy Lanoue & San Diego State Executive Assoc. AD for Student-Athlete Academic Support Services Bobby Smitheran. No word on a hiring timeline. (lin
