"Responsible for the reconfiguring or restructuring of the Athletic Department so that it operates within 1% of its budget. After 2023 any deficits in budget will not be covered by the University but will be charged to the subsequent year’s budget."
This sounds like it was written for Interim A.D. Ted or his clone. I can't see any up and coming A.D.'s who would be enthused by this. I know Ted doesn't want the permanent position but he may be the best person for the job while Old Janey clings to her job. Given the restrictions and limitations that he's been handed, Ted seems to have done a decent job. The WBB vacancy was handled smoothly and expeditiously. News about new recruits seem to be released a LOT faster than previous A.D.'s. While most of the coaches don't like or appreciate his "bean counter" approach, I don't know if we can recruit another good A.D. who could do that as well as Ted.
Most schools operate at a deficit in their Athletics program. Hell, even P5 schools with millions coming in from media arrangements with their conference still operate at a deficit. Not sure who would be interested in our opening. We may have to consider a retread who wants to get back into collegiate athletics. CSUF's A.D. is a retread from Hawaii, and by all metrics, seems to be doing a good job. Someone like him maybe?
