good news is we are a tough team to scout right now, not knowing who in heck is going play from night to night
#1) Tsahonis. I keep harping on this guy, whether it's been lack of discipline in blocking out on perimeter, lazy legs on man to man defense, or horrific shot selection and spacing.
his game is what it is, as they say; but his decisions on the court are huge. He can't be this club mimic the pro basketball style that gets the ball and surveys, burns 5-6 seconds and forces shots. MOVE the damn ball, you aren't MJ. it's ok to post him, it's ok for a 3 if set, but get the ball and give it up. he got LUCKY Fullerton chose to foul him instead of just trapping him. Get rid of the ball, don't wait for a foul, against better teams he'll turn it over in the position he was in. Yes, it's not all bad, he made FTs when fouled, credit where credit is due, he drove more 2nd half vs. his iso routine. He can be 'the man', the key is don't play like you are 'the man'. Tone may do a lot of things poorly, but thing Tone does is he drives movement and offense, and doesn't hang on to the ball. I get having a scorer's mentality and confidence, but play to make teammates better.
Tone. Speaking of Tone, some better decisions, he's gonna keep learning and hopefully recognize 1 on 3 or 1 on 4 usually don't end well. made a nice spot up 3
AT. give AT the flippin ball, and guys & CDM needs to recongize to space to let him take his guy to the hoop. He did seem a bit out of control last night, just missed a few passes and shots...by a bit, somewhat uncharacteristic - but he breaks down defense better than anyone on our team
LT. he just ate up Fullerton. Maybe the best things were fewer forced awkward jumpers and played defense more VERTICAL avoiding fouls while causing Full problems.
Rootegaard. Watch film and stop taking those far out or early unset 3s.
mainly, this group has to avoid trying to do TOO MUCH on offense. Tone and AT can break down and move the ball, and Tsahonis can give up the ball move and get it back.
Defense. Early defense has been superb, preventing penetration, HOWEVER as the games vs. Haw & Full went off, they have to sustain that mentality and effort. Plus avoid the pogo stick routine of guys getting faked out.
beating UCSD is a big deal to get back towards the top of the Big West, a 4 seed is doable, maybe 3 as a goal, but all depends on improvement
