....to provide cover for the decision.
they come up with finalists based on whatever criteria you give them.
basically looking for any gotcha's
the choice will also be dictated by the panel, which is likely to have certain desirements.
the candidates of course will be well rehearsed to say all the right buzz words for today's world
trying to find a nugget (no pun intended)and a go-getter who won't just be platitudes, or even an experienced AD who could navigate Long Beach adequately
whoever gets hired is getting a plum job, and will likely be looking and plotting for their next job on Day 1.
unfortunately Jane should have retired two years ago now, and we are stuck with her making this pick, and then retiring, but for whatever reason she still wants to pad her retirement, and make Long Beach just another Cal States among Cal States. She has shown no desire to promote the university to stand out Previous Message
If they used an executive search firm the last time, they must of thrown out the recommended candidates and just picked someone Janey liked. I remember them identifying the final 3 and none of them had impressive credentials. There's no way a reputable search firm would have come up with that crap. Previous Message
What? She contracted with an executive search firm the lat time. She ended up hiring someone from her old institution who was in charge of fund-raising and never raised any money in one of the wealthier areas in the state.
Conoley is too insecure to hire someone intelligent or competent enough who might challenge her abilities. Previous Message
I hope the year long search for a new athletic director results in a quality hire, but with the current leadership, I'm not confident.
Our opponent today in MBB, Sac State, hired Mark Orr who was the A.D. at St. Mary's. If you haven't noticed, they have one of the top FCS football programs now and their MBB program is on the rise. Fullerton hired Jim Donovan a few years ago, who was formerly the A.D. at Hawaii. Their MBB has had two NCAA tournament appearances since his hiring.
There's no reason for the Niners to hire some inexperienced scrub like Fee. There are quality candidates out there, if you only knew what you were doing. I sincerely hope old Janey contracts with an executive search firm for the next hire. If not, we'll just end up with a bunch of low level assistant A.D.'s at Big West schools in the candidate pool.
