agree Morgan looks a little dinged up, her receiving is not at her past standards from FSU, but she's having to take on a huge workload vs her past
part of Bacon and Callie is the timing of the sets to them, it's tough given Bacon looked so much better vs. Oregon...a long time ago
agree Dylan is solid, she can set the ball as well, it's not clear though if one of the others couldn't do as well such as Savanna or Glenn or Giambi
teh two players we don't see that make me wonder why are Giami and O'Sullivan - Giamb was probably our best back-row player last year, could serve the ball in - not saying should be starting, just I"m surprised how little she has player. teh other is O'Sullivan, it's been the biggest head-scratcher to me that Tyler has not been able to effectively use her. I know SDSU was not a good team, but to hit 0.250 on a bad team, all conference, with teams knowing they were going to her....maybe not the fit for the type of front-row offense, just don't know, I had expected (or projected) that Tyler would turn an all Mountain West 1st team solid hitter in to better hitter and one of our go to hitters instead of her sitting all the time, she's had a short leash all year for whatever reason, I know she's not an all around which maybe plays part of it, a bit of a head-scratcher for me
it'll be interesting to see how this staff/team progresses - they are a continual part mystery
Tia was serving very well in this match. I don't think it was a risk to have her serve at the end of the 5th if one was paying attention.
Meyers needs more experience. Her tempo, delivery and decisions are a bit off. Kennedy needed to get most of the sets in the 5th, but it took Meyers a while to figure that out. Jordan was spent by that time, Schwarzenbach was useless this match, and Bacon seemed lost. Chacon seems a little hampered by injury, but she fought through it. I am not a fan of De La Cruz. Her results are not bad, but she flops around and is off balance too much for my liking.
so bad teams (aka UCSD) find a way to lose I guess!
UCSD is 2-8 in 5 setters, Beach is 4-1
not sure I take a lot of'comfort' in that
one thing to pull out 5 setters vs. Oregon State and LMU, another to 'get by' against Norh and UCSD
this team is entertaining for sure. just in the realm of .....are they getting better....they drive a fan crazy
Kennedy gets better, and Glenn struggled. Bacon looked solid, now Bacon can't get a good swing. Jordan looked SO much better.....now Callie was hitting everythign high and out. Meyer's sets to Jordan looked solid.....& Meyer's sets to Callie were vomit inducing, lol
at least they show grit we hadn't seen.
it's the type of team, I was cringing and praying when Tyler sent Tia out to serve at 12-14, she routinely sails serves long or in to the net, sandwiched between her line drives that get an opponent out of system. so after 3 service errors as a sub, well she nailed UCSD out of system every serve so we won
it's entertaining for sure, they battle definitely
Good teams find a way to win, and we did just that. Hopefully there is time to learn lessons so the performance improves!
a win is a win-- but - very disappointed in the play of the squad so far this year -- now uci comes to town so i hope that we can take them out in 3 ---------------------------
man, they were down 2-1 sets, down 3 match points, and won the last five on Tia Chavira serves to survive 16-14
I don't know if Tia has ever got 5 straight serves in before but she did tonight - feast or famine comes thru
hopefully a breakout match hitting for Jordan who got 20 + kills hitting over 0.300
our middle timing was ....well wretched would be polite, need to get that cleaned up pronto
survive and advance I guess
