though). It's an attack from the back row where the attacker must initiate their jump from beyond the 10 foot line (or that's a foul and loss of point if they touch or are inside the line)
technically it refers to such an attack from a quick set as opposed to a 'pipe' which is considered more of an attack from the center of the back-row that doesn't have to be a 'quick' set. I use BIC for all the back row type attacks from the middle. Our two players who we run the attack to are Morgan Chacon and Jaylen Jordan.
my opinion is run an extraordinary # of BICs compared to most teams, and it is a tougher play to score with in the women's game because of the jumping ability and 'surprise' element needed in the womens game for it to be succesful. Based on scouting us, I don't think opposing coaches are that surprised by how much we run it. Our two yound hitters Glenn & Jordan are still learning how to hit it and it shows in the execution and ability to - they don't have the ball control on the shot that Morgan Chacon has, Morgan is simply so experienced with her ball contral and able to adjust, which she did last night as the match went on
the BIC is more common in the Men's game, so I think part of it is TYler trying to run a more men's type game offense. DeFalco and Taylor Crabb were the best examples of BIC attackers in the men's sport.
I don't think we disguise it well enough to run it as much as we do. But that's my opinion
PINS: it refers to the hitters near the two antennas, i.e. the Pins. there are three, our two outside hitters, right now Morgan Chacon & Jordan Jaylen and our Opposite (Opp) Katie Kennedy. it's because their attacks (that aren't BICs lol) are mostly from the edge (or Pin) of the court. Kennedy attacks more from the right side (versus left side) typical for an Opposite and part of the term OPP or Opposite, and the other OHs from the left side, albeit technially both OH (Outside HItters) and Opp attack from either side, so they are all consider PINS or 'Pin' hitters.
PANCAKE is a dig where the player lays their hand flat to get under the ball like putting a spatula under a pancake in order to get to the ball and pop it up to keep a rally going.
Slide is that play where Callie goes to the right around the back of our setter and jumps off of one leg to get be able to attack from a higher vertical for more advantage on an attack. We don't run that with Kameron Bacon, probably because she's still learning it. Running a Slide and BIC simultaneous may be done to fool the opponents block as they have to chose between trying to block either play, so if we run that well and Meyer disguises which one we use, both can be effective.
OH1 & OH2 refer to our two outside hitters M. Chacon and Jordan, with Chacon probably the OH1 who typically gets the most sets, but that is pretty much moot as they both play every play from front and back-row (in part so we always have a back-row attacker), but sometimes an OH will be subbed out for a defensive specialist (DS) like Savana Chacon

I am but a casual observer of the sport of volleyball. I like watching it but don't always understand some fouls and terms.
For instance, what are BICs and PINS? Plus any other abbreviation that you use.

3-2 over NOrthridge
got blocked and couldn't stop Northridge 1st two sets
maybe someone can explain why our block against tough non-conf opponents was effective, and now vs. the Big West it's....well not as good
Kennedy is really shining, as did Morgan Chacon again
thank god!!!! Tyler got it thru his thick skull to go away from BIC city!!! after the first two sets!!! yeah!!!!!
some good digs tonight, mixed up serves as the match went on
Northridge was setting moon balls a lot, and still had trouble early to get an effective block, but the one hitter was like 6'5"
when Tyler says he wants to be slow to make adjustments but when he does to be quick/effective....well yeah, but please adjust a bit quicker coach!!!! nerve-racking
I think we tried about 25 BICs the first 2 sets (hint, by now doesn't the coaching staff look at the stats on those), and then about 10 or so the last 3 sets...yeah!!!! good coaching there staff!!
good to see Jordan in the 5th set just play good floor D, and then on attacks just dial it back a bit to at least roll shots and stop trying to hammer everything into a block or high - better to at least not give away points
