in a stunning announcement, Long Beach State & San Diego State have been invited to join the Pac-12, due to the opening left with USC/UCLA moving to the mid-west.
says Pac-12 Commishioner Kliavkov, this is a unique opportunity for the Pac-12 and will be accompanied by a secured massive television deal with CBS Sports Media, and an affiliation for scheduling with the SEC. As part of the unique deal, Long Beach State will receive a zero interest loan and initial funding of $250 million to endow resurrection of the Beach football program.
Having a major D1 program in teh Southern California market, the proximity of Long Beach State to OC & LA, combined with the addition of the Aztecs who will play in a new stadium brings excitement and a marque splash to the future of the Pac-12, with unique D1 programs with a vast alumni network in Southern California. The Beach football team will play in Carson's Dignity Health Stadium, who is also kicking in $50 million in sponsorship of Long Beach State athletics, as well in exchange for naming rights of the Dignity Health School of Nursing @ Long Beach State.
The new CBS media deal is expected to provide each institution $65 million a year in revenue to all sports programs.
say President Connelly, "nobody consulted me on this, which is probably a good thing, seeing how much I"ve mucked up the Beach brand so far."
The revised Pac-12 will be provide advantages for recruiting that will be more attractive for student-athletes trying to compete in a conference across 3 times zones.
