deal with teh mess they created, going to be more and more ugly situations
BYU has a good approach, basically boosters created a fund for all women athletes, they basically sign up and get about $6k a year and agree to 'advertise' products
imagine the offensive lineman, who gets 5k, protection a $1 mil quarterback.
the other thing is - with boosters taking teh avenue to pay directly to athletes, what happens to donations to the athletic departments, will athletic department funding go down as boosters shift funds directly to athletes in what is basically no more than payola Previous Message
Now, the top returning player for the Hurricanes is threatening to enter the transfer portal unless his NIL agreement is adjusted higher. He apparently is getting less than some of the new recruits. The company that has the deal is refusing to "renegotiate".
Wonder if anyone thought this whole NIL thing through before it was adopted? Previous Message
there goes amateur sports - when are the ticket prices start going up? -- now the fun and games will start in all phases of college sports -- so looking back into history i guess ucla was a pioneer in players getting paid in cash, cars and other gifts -- oracle you can't be mad at ucla now ------------------- Previous Message
...how does a coach discipline such a player, knowing that?
in the pros, all the pros are making money
the disparity with this
I think players, good ones that is, can potentially make some decent money eventually at Long Beach
but guys making more in college than the pros
the BCS especially, are now nothing more than pro sports franchices
how are these guys going to be motivated to study at all, when making $800k, or even less
at least, the NCAA can no longer penalize colleges for throwing money at players, so a Long Beach could compete in that sense, the money doesn't have to be assoicated with the Univ. Previous Message
Just read that the top MBB player in the transfer portal (Nigel Pack, who transfered to the Miami Hurricanes) signed a NIL deal for $800,000 over two years, plus a car. This so called amateur is making more than most of the Big West head coaches!
