the MIVA commissioner was on teh committee
LB-SB have been running a Big West - Big Challenge ever year, and it gets the top Big West vs. Ohio State & Penn State key match up each year
LB-Irvine-Hawaii have commited to keeping Lewis and Loyola powerhouses on the schedule
then Hawaii went to Ball State for matches
the Big West has made a concerted effort to emphasize the MIVA-Big West schedule,
then Long Beach in particularly has made a concerted effort to schedule EIVA teams, and the NJIT AD (who we played) was also on the committee, was rooting for NJIT for that, but they choked and dropped leads in their match vs. Princeton
it's stuff like that that probably helps keep the committee members from being provincial

Which also shows why the RPI being such a major part of the selection is not great.
Hawaii 3-0 record vs Lincoln Memorial gave them 3 more RPI top 10 wins as Lincoln Memorial had a good overall record. But we all know if Lincoln Memorial was in the Big West they would have probably gone 1-9 in conference (I will give them one win over CSN or UCI). So it dumb those three game gave Hawaii way more of a resume builder than beating better teams with worse records like UCSD or Stanford.
I get I am sounding like an SEC football fan who says it x teams was in the SEC they would be lucky to win a game. But in the sense of men's volleyball it is true. There is even a larger gap among the top and bottom teams then their is in football.
